The African National Congress has hung the party’s first election posters in the conservative Northern Cape Afrikaner stronghold of Oranje.

The ruling party’s youth league leader, Juluis Malema addressed representatives of the community on Saturday.

Although both parties agreed that not all off Oranje’s isolation issues have been resolved, the door remained open for the ruling party to hold further discussions.

An estimated 700 residents live in the town but the only sign of them was when they peered out of their windows from behind their curtains.

Malema stuck firm to his promise to campaign freely in all areas of the country but he only did so after lengthy discussions with Oranje community leaders.

Oranje movement President Carl Boshoff said having Malema visit the town helped dispel some of the fears about the country’s black led government.

He said although Oranje residents were not ready to stop protecting their way of life, by isolating themselves from the general population, the doors would always be open for further discussions with the ANC.

Afrikaner isolation will only stunt South Africa’s development, this was the comment made by African National Congress Youth League leader, Julius Malema.

Malema wrapped up a meeting with community leaders of the controversial Northern Cape stronghold of Oranje.

Oranje movement President, Carl Boshoff said Saturday’s meeting with the ANCYL President helped the movement dispel some fears about the black led government.



He said although the community still had reservations about reintegrating into the mixed South African population, the movement was open to further discussions with the ruling party.


Malema responded by admitting that he had a better understanding about the Oranje community’s dedication to protecting the Afrikaner way of life.


He said the isolation of the Afrikaner nation was holding back development in the country as they have valuable skills that could help South Africa weather the global financial crisis especially in the agricultural sector.


He ended of saying that if all South Africans worked together regardless of creed or colour the country would soon find itself as a leader in the global community.

The whole point of this silly exercise was posturing by Julius. It was bound to be the non event of the month with Jules being on his best behaviour knowing these okes would not put up with any of his usual cr@p. But he can come away, claiming that he, the great J.Malema, had dared to enter the lion's den. Silly little man.

Whatever you think of syphon, he does have a point about the removal/damage of election posters.

I think if we want to be mature, we have to admit that the rules apply to everyone. Not only the political parties we favour.
