Morning all,

Quick question, is it possible to jump-start a "push start" car? Looking at a high-spec 86 while browsing and was wondering if this is possible? Does it work the same way as a normal manual?
Gear in second, roll car and turn ignition..

yes

Yes but that would not be jump-starting ;) Push starting perhaps. Jump starting is when you use jumper cables from another car or battery.

Jump starting with leads or if no leads available but a second car available you could transfer battery from a car with a good battery and place it in the car with the dead battery start it with the good battery and then swop the good battery with dead battery while the car is running and it will begin to charge up again.

Does it have a clutch pedal?

I dunno what gearbox the gt86 auto has (except it's made by AISIN AW) but if it's a normal automatic with manual control I'm gonna say no as it would require hydraulic pressure to actuate the mechanism and for that the engine needs to be running or you need a electrical pump.

You can push start a manual with a clutch, but not any auto. Does not matter if the auto is triptronic or not. Auto is auto!

No. The ignition and starter is turned on by the button, and only when the clutch is depressed.

So if the car has momentum is in gear and clutch is depressed, releasing the clutch does not start the car because the ignition is not on.

I am speaking regarding Toyota, other vehicles may be different.

Have you ever considered using punctuation? It exists for a reason...

Is the button used only for turning the starter?
If so then it wouldn't matter since the momentum would be doing the job and turning the engine.

Still doesn't work.

Clutch in for ignition on versus clutch out to bump start.

Mutually exclusive.
The clutch is in initially to let the car roll while it's in gear. When you have momentum you press and hold the button and then promptly release the clutch.

No, it also initiates the ignition circuit, but the car will only start with the clutch depressed.
