Hi there

I have this problem with my mouse (steelseries Ikari laser). Mu cursor will randomly jump. I tried different surfaces and cleaning the mouse. also tried setting my usb ports to never go into power savings mode. Mouse is not under warranty. So should I just get another mouse and if I must what do you suggest. I would like something similar.

Thanks

Mouse pointer moving irritates me as well. You'll get it with cheap and no name mice.
Microsoft has BlueTrack technology, Logitech has Lazer Darkfield tracking. You can get any optical mouse with those technologies and you shouldn't get problem.

Dude, the Steelseries Ikari mouse is not a cheap mouse....

I have had a ton of Mouse, from Cheap optical MS mouses and Expensive Wireless gaming mouses.
I have noted that the Correct mouse pad makes all the difference. I have used a couple of mouse pad and noticed that the Razer Goliathus/Roccat Taito King-size is the best one for me. That will most likely sort out your issues.

If the Mouse still does this, their is no reason not to get the Sensei, great Mouses those.

I tried steelseries QCK and razer Goliathus(control). Both same issue. WOW thanks for the help guys.

I forgot about my other steelseries ikari laser mouse. Will try that one on my pc and check if it works fine for about a day.

The Ikari is an old mouse with old lazer tech. I had similar issues every now and then when working in Windows that my Logitech MX500's pointer would also move around, until I just move the mouse slightly again.

Now that I replaced my MX500 with a Corsair M60, I haven't had any of those issues at all.

Getting a decent mouse pd like Geogre said is definitely the first and best option, unless you're extremely serious about your gaming, in which case I'll also suggest that you look at getting a new mouse perhaps.

Get old ball mouse. :) All optical tend to reset itself, hence cursor jumps.

Uhm, think you should have read the first Post, He has a Steelseries Ikari Laser

I have the Goliathus Speed edition pads, as the control ones tend to not like the mouses I buy, check if their isn't any vibrations from the table or Sub woofer or something, noted that even a unsteady HDD can make a cursor jump, if you are using thin mouses pads like the QCK, Really Liked the older QCK+ and QCK Mass Mousepads, nice and thick.

ok connected my old Ikari Laser. I got the other one free cause my steelseries headset was also faulty but that's another story. Problem with this one the top part of the body is making small dots and I don't like that but will do for now. BTW it seems like that one works fine. mouse is not jumpy at all unless I bump the table...lol

OK my steelseries ikari laser was also skipping, which was hugely frustrating for gaming, when you trying to turn quickly, aim etc, but it was because the steelseries plastic mousepad had worn out, so its surface was too smooth. I got a new cloth mousepad, and its fine again.

Ok i think my mouse is faulty cause the other one works 100% will wait until next year to upgrade my mouse

I have had a bunch of gaming mice and every single time I go back to my old razer deathadder optical. The lazer ones tend to do erratic things where the 3g optical sensor on the deathadder is always perfect.

@Xera: Seen the same thing and it turned out to be a motherboard issue -.0

Unplug from USB and plug back in once it starts acting up. Looked like static buildup / board overheating causing USB issues.
