Hey guys.

I'm so confused ... I often get customer going to google.co.za and searching digital addiction and then coming on my site ... like I got 1 right now :p ... basically what I'd like to know is what's the point of them typing my name in google to get to my site? It was even spelt right ... why not just type it in the browser?
Maybe this makes the stupidest question of the day list, but I've always tried to figure the point to that :p

Any feedback would be nice :)

Thanks

Itai

Many people do this now I reckon... especially with searches built into browsers. I rarely use the address bar on Firefox anymore, I use the google search box. It means not having to try and remember what the address is if it is not book marked!

Thanks to people like me google is worth a fortune! :)

Probably just to make sure the domain is correct (that it's .co.za and not .com) ;)

Thats what I was thinking ... but where did they hear my name in the first place :p ... thats what gets to me ... cause if they remember my name ... surely they can remember the .co.za ... its not like I got Digital Addiction spray painted on walls and stuff ... /thinks to himself ... hmmm, idea!!!

I've typed into the google search by accident a few times ... but if I don't remember I name ... I just type part of it into the firefox addressbar, and if I've been there ... it magically pops up :p ... couldn't be bothered to first click search and then the link on google ... too many clicks for lazy me

It helps a lot because I spell stuff wrong and I don't have to add the .co.za in Google.

Aha, you see I clear all private data when exiting firefox so previous addresses do not magically appear for me! :)

Aha ... no need for me ... no one uses this PC besides me ... so no one will ever find out about all the hacking, porn, warez, farting sites I visit :p

If you spell wrong, its understandable ... but most of the time its spelt perfectly :p

I would probably spell digital adiction correct but a lot of other stuff I don't so it's become habit. Helps for typos as well.

Most probably have their homepage as google and the pointer is in the google box already, so they just start typing and hit enter

Maybe because digital addiction.co.za doesn't work

:D

i know this happens, cos my boet never looks at the screen when he types and by the time he is finished with one finger typing and hit enter, he is already on google search results !!! LOL

Hmm, not sure why that is such a good answer but saying they type in the browsers built in search box is not... ;)

Same diffs I reckon....

Because if google is your default site ... the cursor automatically goes to the search box ... but the google search bar is not default, and it is small out of site on the right. Well on a 22" LCD anyway :p

I just installed the URL Suffix extension which lets you customise your shortcuts when navigating to a page. Firefox lets you use shortcuts by default, but if you want to customise it then it's easier to use the extension than navigating to the about:config page.

For example to go to the MS site, you type 'microsoft' in the address bar and press ctrl+enter, which appends the 'www.' and '.com' parts. Shift+enter gives you the '.net' suffix by default. But if you want to customise them, for example if you want .co.za instead of .net when you hit shift+enter, it's easier to customise by using the extension.

But for most people who have no clue about which domain the site is part of, google is still usually the easiest way to find out.
