Hi everyone

I just have a quick question on Cell C and downloading making use of Internet Download Manager.

Everytime I download a 300MB+ file with IDM the download starts, it goes up to 180KB/s then it stops and go down to 0. It then goes up again to 160KB/s, stops and goes down again. This repeats until the download is completed. It takes around 5-6 hours to download 300MB.

Is there any specific reason?

The rest of my connection is fine, surfing is lightning fast, etc.

Thanks.

It's not throttling or a specific service that's at fault here. The connection you are on is wireless aka cell. If you're between 2 towers with equal signal strength, you'll find that your cell bounces between the two towers. This causes it to basically disconnect from one, connect to the other...continue for a bit and does the same.

With browsing you'll find that it's fast, only because visiting a website doesn't require you to be connected for longer than 30 seconds. So while it's switching towers, you most probably won't feel the effect while surfing.

It's a common problem with cell C for some reason anything in the 300mb range freaks out you far better off downloading 2x150Mb files or a 400mb.
the speed downloading anything between 300-399MB will just bounce from max to 0 kbs.

HI House

As AcidRaZor say could be the constant swapping between the towers.
Most often is .
Are you going through a router ?
Is it only from one site ?
Try use MDMA and lock on to one tower, or a manager like that.
