Just another what car thread...

Interesting! Have you got the Convertible or Coupe? Any tips on anything 350z specific to look out for when buying one of these? Also, the boot is seriously restricted with the strut bar, right?

The coupe. I don't like soft tops and the 350z coupe looks so much better than the convertible. More paint to polish, wax and shine is always a good thing :) You'll find that there are many more convertibles for sale than coupes. The good coupes with decent mileage which are in good condition get sold real fast so you need a bit of luck to find the right one. I spent 3 months looking until I found what I wanted.

The main thing to check up on is the previous owners. If you can chat to them you can get a good feel of what the car's been through. Mine had two previous owners...retired oldies who just used it on weekends.

Maintenance wise, there's not much that can go wrong. The guys that race their cars sometimes have clutch problems. So if you are always pushing it at max that is one concern. I haven't had any issues with my clutch. Friends who have driven it were amazed that the clutch it still like new. There's no expensive turbo replacements and not much electronics in the interior that can give you issues (compared to BMW/AUDI). The only major recurring costs would be tires and brakes.

Oh ye, the boot space is a bit limited due to the strut bar, but only heightwise. You can fit a large suitcase in there though as long as it is not too fat. There is lots of room as long as your stuff is around 30cm or less in thickness.

Thanks for that! Certainly giving me something to think about. What's the standard sound system like?

If someone gives a stupid advise like that what I do. I have driven too many Kias and Hyundais and whatelse there is (rentals) and would rather walk or take a bike to work every day than own one. To me they are boring, ugly and unsporty and I cannot enjoy driving one of these. Of course they are the sensible choice for many as they use little fuel, are reliable and cheap and easy to maintain.
Please quote me where I even mentioned a Hyundai or Kia? I recommended the 325i Coupe.

Last time I checked a major service at Audi/BMW/Mercedes cost in the region of R800-R900 while an oil service cost R600. And that's out of motorplan. Within motorplan it costs R0. A friend just got his Polo serviced for R1200...

If you think that a German luxury vehicle with over 100 000 KM costs R800 to service you are dreaming. When was that, 1999? Cars aren't built like they used to be.
After 100 000 KM nearly every service is a big one, always something needing to be replaced such as brake pads etc. Never mind the really expensive parts such as turbos and gearboxes. A service and brake pads at a dealership will set up back R10 000 plus.

Was referring to whoever pointed out the Kia, not you.

That was in 2011 for a standard service without new breaks etc. Of course parts like that will set you back quite a bit.

No expert here since I'm not too big on sound. I've got the stock BOSE sound system. 6 CD shuttle. Sounds pretty good. I don't go around maxing it...way too loud even with the volume halfway up. So you can go around waking up the neighbourhood if that's your thing. If you want huge base though you'll probably want to install a sub. The standard system even has a cassette player in addition to the 6 CD shuttle. I haven't used the cassette player yet...

If its a half-decent BOSE that's more than enough for me. Not a fan of big subs but I do appreciate a nice 8 or 10 speaker component system.

I also had a 350z, barely cost me a cent to run. My turbo audi on the other hand.... well its cost a hell of a lot on the motorplan so far. But the bose system is pretty crap, luckily the 230kw version had an updated bose system.

It seems you can grab a 07 350z with under 50000km on the clock for under 200k :wtf:! That's not bad for a sub 6s 3.5L V6! What kind of fuel consumption did you get on yours?

11.5 ish L/100, I didn't drive it like miss daisy though.

Actually considering buying another one and keeping it for life.

Sub 6?

Coastal maybe?

A 350z convertible couldn't get passed me and I'm certainly not sub 6

Can I just throw in a little superficiality into the debate to heat things up. According to my wife (and vetted by most other females and non-clued-up-on-cars people I've asked so far), get a BMW or an Audi, forget the rest.

Try explaining to a chick that you drive a Nissan, "but it's actually a sports coupe blah blah blah" they stop listening after Nissan. Jeremy Clarkson had a similar sentiment. Same with Kia, Hyundai, Honda, Mazda, Toyota and all the other uncool brands.

If you are not interested in the least by what people think about your car, then disregard the above ramblings.

May depend on the engine revision but a 07 with 318 ponies certainly does sub 6. Maybe there was just an idiot behind the wheel.

Generally completely agree and that's what I'm driving now. That's why those are definatly all on the top of my list but the 350z is still a cool car.

Jeeeeeesas, you have issues bro. Maybe try being your own person for a change?
Most p***y I ever got was when I was driving a freaking Baby Blue Toyota Tazz. Seriously, this is why I never listen to comments on MyBB about cars. I just buy what I want and maybe ask for some advice after the fact.
The e-peen issues on here boggles the mind.
