If you're running Hassio on the Pi4, it does have its own MQTT server as an addon.Been looking into tasmota but I'll need to build a MQTT server? Considering this route with a Pi4 as my internet is not always reliable.
I did flash a Basic the other day. Very easy. Used NodeMCU flasher for Windows, a FTDI, an old motherboard usb cable and some pins off an old pcb. I soldered nothing to the Sonoff. Pic to follow of the cable I make using a

Tasmota doesn't require MQTT, you can just push GET requests to it as well.
I've flashed Sonoffs and D1's before - more interested the hardware side of the R2 if there are any guides specific to that, most just use the basic (full disclosure: haven't opened my R2 to see what it looks like inside).

I moved the 4th clip to the 5th position on the connector on the FTDI. Easy with a thin pin (or 23g hypodermic). I did solder the pins to the clips on the other end because one was a bit lose. Could have just crimped them a bit.

4 channel that operates my spot lights. 1 channel for each side of the house. Set it to On at sunset and Off at sunrise.
433mhz bridge and going to connect PIR's and door sensors.
Mini switches for the lights.
Some Basic and POW switches for devices not connected to the inverter. Delay On after utility returns. Going to tap into the dry connectors on the inverter.

Like I said, it’s right there on their website for every device.
My TH16 and temp humidity sensor and water immersion/leak sensor.
Didnt realise need a TH16 for each one. [Edit dont need TH16 for water leak detector.]
So will order another one [edit no need for another TH16] with 2 POW2s.
At least now will be alerted if pump malfunctions and my basement floods.

How you using them. I have a few Sonoffs ... all still in the box.
Initially got to control automated garage doors via wifi but decided that security risk and loadshedding risk to internet ... too risky.
But must start using them. Have 2 outside wifi plugs and awaiting delivery of wifi plug.
I ordered 3 POW R2 and a 433MHZ remote. They shipped it this morning. How is your package delivered once it is in SA? Is it with the post office?

Buffalo from CN to JHB, handed over to Paxi (Pep store collection).
What it looks like is orders are bundled in CN into bigger orders and then separated in SA. Maybe this is how they are avoiding duty.
The weak link is Paxi. They are slow to go collect from Buffalo, maybe 2 days to a week to get it to their hub. Each time it changes hubs, add another 2 days. Mine take 2 weeks from time it clears customs to get to DBN. Then 2 days to get out to the sticks from DBN.
In the long run, it takes about the same amount of time as Amarex. The difference is that, with Aramex you have to wait to get the duty amount, pay Aramex and then wait for them to pay SARS and get the item cleared. DHL are quicker because they let you know the duty before it leaves China. You pay and it clears as soon as it arrives in SA, barring the nosey SARS officials.

Thanks! Do you get an option to select which pep store you can pick up your order from? Or do they send it to the pep closest to home?

Funnily we are a small town and have 3, yes 3, Pep stores. Packages go to them randomly.

Just did a quick check for a Broadlink RM Mini 3 Smart Home Wifi Universal Remote Control. R349 locally (marked down from R500), R250 on Banggood. Sounds right, usually local is double the price. But here is the kicker. I'm not in a main centre so its R350 delivery. Yes the delivery is a buck more than the device. Even in a city it is still R109 or R69 in GP. From China? R55 tax free delivery. So total from China is R315. Locally it's between R418 and R699

Got some of the Mini's installed
Got the SV installed inside of my intercom in the house (no wifi at the gate motor)
POW on geyser
RF bridge with door sensors working
4Ch has been in place for a few weeks now. I just want to relocate it from in the ceiling to in the house. That way I can manually operate the spots it I want by using the buttons on the device. Already put trunking in.
I'll do pics once everything is installed. I am also sorting out the nest of Heath Robinson wiring in the ceiling.
