Just Cause 3

Played bit more than an hour now and it's pretty awesome.

Unfortunately I'm suffering from pretty much all the problems mentioned in the Ars Technica article. Crazy fps drops, jarring gameplay, out of sync voice, disconnect from the server etc.

i will probably buy it once all issues have been resolved as it does look like fun.
Still need to finish GTA and then Fallout 4 anyway :)

It seems to be plagued with many issues like Arkham Knight.

I played Just Cause 2 and had hours of fun with that, although I didn't really get round to finishing it. I got Just Cause 3 the other day and have played around 6 hours so far, it's definitely an awesome game, very similar to Just Cause 2, just a little more refined, more weapons/vehicles and the map is a ton better.

It's GTA V as a military shooter, is probably the most accurate way I can sum it up. Visually a very impressive game, although not quite as good as GTA V, it definitely is close, if not on par. The story is the same style as the first two, the map is devided into zones, and it's up to you and the rebels to seize control of each section piece by piece, often resulting in destruction of large military installations etc.

I've spent hours just roaming around the map, and I don't think I've even explored 40% of it yet. It really is massive. The grappling hook, parachuting and wingsuit is a load of fun, gliding from point to point is strangely relaxing.

Only downside: The controls can be a bit clunky. I've had numerous occasions where I've been meaning to either jump, jump over, or grapple between objects, and wound up face planting into the side of them. Vehicle movement is twitchy, although this is probably minimised if you use a controller as the wheels of vehicles have a delayed turning circle on key press.

Lastly, no multiplayer, yet. Really good game, but I just don't see myself spending near as much time on this as I did with GTA V. If you don't have GTA V, get that rather.

Got an offer on SAGamer. Swop BLOPS 3 for Just Cause 3. Didn't like BO in any case so I sent PM.

Good move, BLOPS 3 is ok, nothing more than just 'okay'. Just Cause 3 is certainly a much better bet, so much more game.

Ok, I did the swop.

Cool game. I like but my only gripe is the awful load times!

If you have an SSD, try creating an additional Steam library on there and just move the game over. Load times are pretty hectic, GTA V also had really long load times, but it wouldn't be as often as Just Cause 3. Also noticed that if you play a challenge and choose to repeat it, it loads the whole thing again, quite annoying.

Playing on PS4 lol.

So it's Bloodborne all over again... those load times :erm:

How have the fps drops affected you?

Definitely need to pick this up, get it now or wait until some patches have fixed some of the performance issues reported

The performance is quite ok. Its just the load times from starting the game to actually getting play-time and between levels.

I changed my mind about this game. I'm actually getting annoyed by the whole game play itself. The grappling thing to move around . . . wtf is up with that?

It's a part of Just Cause, use a car if the grappling hook is bothering you.

Err.. that's kind of a massive part of the game, almost the crux of it, and it wouldn't be Just Cause otherwise :p There are quite a few vehicles you can use, and not to mention aircraft. Make use of your rebel drops. Unfortunately for you, there are some missions that require you to use the grappling hook.

Personally I find that the grappling hook/wingsuit/parachute is well designed, and fluid. I quite like it. But maybe it's a different experience on the consoles.

It's awesome, maybe you just need to get used to it?

You fling yourself around the map quite quickly with it. Combine the hook with your wingsuit and parachute.

And you use the hook to tie enemy soldiers to gas canister and then send them rocketing into the sky etc.

This game looks like it might be struggling from OWS aka "open world syndrome" .

It is fun at first, but then you realise you are repeating the same thing over and over. So, no matter how large the world is and how many little towns there are, you are going to rinse-repeat-next , which eventually leads to things getting boring very soon . These are the same devs that did Mad Max and that game had severe OWS too.

Even Witcher 3 had some OWS , but it was easily covered with the amount of main story content. It is becoming a bit of a bad habit of devs to "pad" a game into making it seem like it got more content by adding these repetitive "challenges" etc etc.

GTA V had a large open world, but Rockstar pulled it off brilliantly with the campaign, and multiplayer modes. For JC3, it does definitely get a little repetitive, but at least the campaign does reduce a fair portion of the monotony with relatively detailed and entertaining missions. Also, it's very difficult to explore some parts of the map without doing the missions first, which might be a good way of addresses 'OWS'
