Just for reference sake , i asked Microsoft the following in an email:

"Could I buy a Xbox for Windows and use the kinect on my Xbox on occasions? Or is the only option to buy 2 different Kinects?"

their reply:

As we understand, you want to verify if you can buy Xbox for Windows.
We regret to inform you that there's no available Xbox 360 for Windows only Kinect for Windows. Also, the only option is to buy two different Kinects.

Yea to be honest I think you confused them a bit there.

Also a quick google search will inform you that you can use your Xbox kinect with windows, but not all features will be available, as the windows kinect sensor has got extra features, not available on the xbox version.

Obviously this works in reverse as well, your windows kinect will work on xbox. Revealed by the same quick google search.
