Just got mugged, what now?

I've done ninjitsu for 5 years, when you got a gun against your head it doesnt help :P Best is to not try be a hero. But screw driver or knife you might be able to get away with it.
Ya that's true hey, if anything I might have been able to just react better...

Still, I think I got off pretty lucky now if I think about it, I just lost my phone, not my car or wallet... *shrug*
They block the IMEI so yeah i think it cannot be registered on the network.
They asked for this over the phone and my hisense box had two numbers on it so they said I must go to a vodacom storee.
You gonna have to go report this at the police station and get a case number (for the blacklisting) if i am not mistaken. If nothing else, cause a blip on the crime stats.

Glad you're OK though, maybe you should go get checked out just in case, sooner rather than later?

Thanks man! I'm gonna go to the police station tomorrow. Don't know if it'll help much but I will.

If the phone is unusable here, it will probably find its way to a country up north.

How so? Idk if this guy was that smart, he'll prolly try to sell it at a robot for R40 unless he was a gangster in which case I am lucky to be alive...

**** man. Never been mugged before in my life ****ing scary how quickly you can actually die I mean I was just going about my business and bam it's all over in less than a minute.

5 guys walked into my place and put a gun in my mouth:P Now that was scary. Work colleagues son was stabbed in traffic by beggers, So when i see them now i try drive them over.

Isn't there an alternative to black listing a phone. They make their way across border anyways. I wonder if it's possible to to turn the sim or phone into a trap. Let them use it and get themselves tracked. Just a thought.

Would be cool if you could transform the existing sim in that phone.

We've had people try that (e.g. crook managed to take a selfie & it sync'd to FB)...police aren't willing/able to help.

I'd just get the SIM blocked, get a police case number and move on.

I'll give you the details later, I got my phone stolen, what do I do now?

I need to block my phone, does VOdacom do this 24/7?

I have my banking apps, personal pics on it, everyhring... What now???

Since my first Android phone years ago (a Samsung Galaxy Ace), I've always had Cerberus installed. It's hidden, can't be removed without your password, can track your phone, read messages remotely, capture and email pictures remotely, wipe your device remotely etc. If my phone is ever stolen I'll lock it and trace it as soon as possible.

You want to be situationally aware, always. Easier said than done but that's the idea at least. Maybe something like krav-maga else something very self-defence orientated? And even then, the first rule is to avoid confrontation so run away as a first option! Those scary videos of real knife fights and how quickly a lot of damage can be done, the worst being when a slight knick results in a very serious internal wound like puncturing one's heart.

Wait you got a picture of the crook? There's always the make as lot of noise as possible option.

When it happened I was more shocked than sore, I felt no pain, about 20 minutes later it started hurting and it does hurt a little now, especially when I move my left arm across my chest a lot, but other than that, no it didnt bleed it muyst be blunt force trauma. Just feels like when someone gives you a hard punch.

**** I havent even taken my shirt off yet to look. give me a second

Ahh ok yeah taking my shirt off hurt - raising my arm above my head hurts and I got a red mark where he hit me, nothing serious...

Sounds to me like this guy actually tried to stab you but failed. Lucky for you he was obviously quite an amateur at this. Probably his first time attempting to stab someone with that weapon.

Glad you got out with minimal harm done to you.

Guys I want to avoid this as much as possible in the future, what can I do?

Should I carry a tazer with me, a knife, a gun? (well... not a gun, but it would have been the greatest deterrant, 'give me your keys' show him gun).

But defensively? If it was a real knife id be a corpse now, can I wear some form of underarmour? Like kevlar or i dont ****ing know...

Will def take self defence classes.

How would you describe your demeanor? Looking like a target can encourage people to approach you when they are already nervous themselves. I've been mugged twice unsuccessfully, the first time i ended up having lunch with the guy instead and the second time i told the guy to **** off and he did. if i was with my son it would probably have been a different story

Sorry to hear dude...

I try to avoid walking with wallet/phones/etc in my hands.

Care to elaborate a little? Especially on the lunch part?
