President Cyril Ramaphosa has agreed to let Brian Dames, the head of African Rainbow Energy and Power, step down form the newly appointed Eskom Sustainability Task Team.

In a media statement on Wednesday morning, the Presidency said that Dames had noted concerns raised regarding a "perceived conflict of interest relating to the scope of work and terms of reference of the Eskom Sustainability Task Team".

"Based on these concerns, Mr Dames has requested to be released from the task team. President Ramaphosa has expressed his appreciation for Mr Dames’s willingness to serve and respects the judgment he has exercised."

Makes sense.

It does. Whatever his recommendations would be at the end of the day, there will be someone who could use the conflict of interest issue against him and Ramaphosa. He just should not have taken the job from the onset and should not have waited to this point.

The EFF comes to mind, I am sure they were waiting to pounce.

He was probably looking at what was required, and until this point it was not evident that the conflict of interest would rear its head.

I am sure CR may still rely on him for some advise from the sidelines, instead of official recommendations.

Sjoe... CR has a lot of enemies and is constantly under the magnifying glass. It was a mistake to assume it would not rear its head. In any event, it is a loss to see him depart from this group.

Enemies within his beloved party and outside, one wrong move and he will have problems, remember the scandal the EFF made when he took Jeff and Patrice to some business trip to Qatar or somewhere? He was accused of state capture, I am sure the EFF must be so disappointed that he was one step ahead this time.

Reason given does not sound real enough?
If he's a smart guy the real reason would be that he doesn't want to be on the suicide mission called "saving Eskom", it can only end badly for one's career in the long run.

Conflict of interest becomes a convenient exit from a suicide mission without embarrassing him or CR.

All speculation of course.

What rubbish...

I love a good conspiracy theory now and again but sometimes I just accept a good explanation and move on.

Seeing as the gentleman knows Eskom pretty well, why would he have accepted the role in the first place then?

I doubt any real work has started.
