Love my Roku 3 / Plex combo so much in the lounge that I have just ordered another Roku 3 for my bedroom. While the exchange rate has meant this one is costing R100 more than the first, I managed to sell my dual-view PVR and that is covering the cost of the second Roku 3!

I can't wait for it to arrive now :)

Next month will be the switch from Afrihost mobile to a 4MB ADSL line and then I will do the unotelly / netflix / hulu thing. Eventually by the end of the year I hope to cancel DSTV or migrate down to a cheaper package depending on the moans from SWAMBO...

I'm getting a Roku Stick in a few weeks. Cost me nothing, its a gift. I'm probably going to dump my WD TV Live if it is worth it. Worried about the performance compared to the Roku 3, but the one time a friend was showing me his, the Roku froze.:wtf:
You ever experience that?

It has frozen 2 or 3 times since I bought it 8 months ago and we use it everyday (daughter hogs it 24/7). I am not sure why it did it but on the latest firmware, things seem more stable. It would usually lockup and then reboot itself after a minute.

I went with the Roku 3 again because I am also worried about slower performance on the other models but mostly, I LOVE the remote with the earphone jack :)

This is the Roku's best feature. I got a good set of Audio Technicas the other week. Now I can watch Stuff late into the night without waking up the wife. :D

Me too. I ordered from Amazon US and it should be here this week...I hope. Its currently day 15 after order and the status since Monday is clearing customs.

Hmmm. Very tempting. That headphone jack on the remote is something else. Never knew about that.
But the Amazon Fire has great specs. I imagine the experience on the fire will be smoother

Only tangentially relevant but is there still a demand for the SD Dual view PVR? I've got one sitting here that I haven't used in 16 months.

I believe there is - my dad actually bought mine from me. He has one at his home and 1 at the beach house and wanted mine as a spare as you just can't get them from multichoice anymore.

With the SD-PVR, you get 3 viewing environments which helps in a big house or beach house....

Can the Roku stream your content from your pc to your tv like the WD TV live?

Just looking into the Roku. Do you have to pay a monthly subscription or once off, apart from buying the unit?

Plex server resides on your local media server and streams to the plex client on your roku via the LAN.

As I understand it , Plex still uses the internet to do this or am I wrong?. I'm looking for something that can do it by Wi-Fi alone.

Plex still does need an active internet connection to work though, just so you are aware.

As long as I dont use my internet datacap to stream local content, I am happy.
