I hereby kindly invite you to the JZ CHESS OPEN 2013 which will take place on Monday 23 December 2013 in Nkandla, venue is Nkandla Municipality Stadium. The tournament is held every year since 2009 and will be attended by His Excellency President Jacob Gedley’hlekisa Zuma as our patron and inspiration behind the introduction of the game of chess in villages.

KwaZulu Chess Association together with KZN Department of Sports & Recreation is proud host of the tournament. LOVELIFE will also conduct presentation from their MOBILE YOUTH CENTRE. We’re expecting around 300 participants from KZN, we will also have players from other provinces as well most of who are youth from villages.

For the first time ever, all 11 districts of KZN will be represented by a team of 10 kids aged under 15years, teams will be made up of both girls and boys. In this chess tournament, President Zuma gets an opportunity to polish his skills and also play! Earlier on in July, President Zuma played chess in the Commonwealth Chess Championship held in Port Elizabeth, his game ended in a stalemate. The President will be hoping to use the home advantage to do better this time around.

Arguably, in SA chess is the fastest growing sport in the last 5 years. Previously, chess was known as the game of the elite few, not anymore. Though our school programs, in KZN alone, we have developed over 100 teachers who can now teach chess in classrooms since our initiative in 2009. With your support, we hope to further promote the game and take it to every village & township in SA. The benefits of chess are well documented. Hence, we do not only promote chess as a sport but we use chess to unlock potential of the young brain.

Your attendance and support will be greatly appreciated. For more info, please contact me - event organizer on the details below.

Kind Regards
Sandile Xulu – Director of JZ CHESS OPEN

Yes to show the youth how to put a rubber on the pecker, because the chess tournament will likely be so boring they'll end up bonking each other to pass the time.

You would be crazy to send your primary school kid so far from home to go to Nkandla to play chess, get a free sex ed class and meet JZ.

Zuma was the inspiration for introducing chess in these villages? In other words - it is his doing? If that is the case I think I just found one thing he has done I am actually proud of.
