Ok. So i got the processor sorted out(Q6600), now do you guys think i should wait for DDR3 boards to drop in price i just dont want what happened to me now, i have a ddr1 pc and ddr2 is way cheaper and better i dont want to get a ddr2 and then the same happens with ddr3 any recomendations on a board ?:)

How much did you pay for the Q6600 and where? I also want to buy one.

The Q9550 would be worth a look. My initial choice was the Q6600 as well until I saw the price drop of the Q9550

Depends what you want to spend. For a Q6600 anything will do. For a 9550 I would recomend a high end board with DDR III or even a DDR II screamer.

Again depends on how much you want to spend and GPU card avalable.

Q6600 is approximately R1800-00
Q9300 is approximately R2500-00
Q9550 is approximately R2800-00

I would stay away from ddr 3 for the moment, expensive and the performance gain is not really worth the extra money.

DDR2 will still be here for another year or so i would say.

maybe get the asus p5q motherboard from computersonly.co.za

Q9550 stock will be here in latest two weeks. Maybe even late next week.

Well, most if not all Nehalem based CPUs from Intel will be DDR3 so depending on what you can get you may want DDR3.... I know Prophecy has DDR3 1333 1GB sticks for under R700 so you could buy two and a ddr3 board. Or just get a budget board like the GB P35-DS3R and loads of DDR2.

I don't know the P5Q asus, but own the P5E model - love it! Fantastic board! I'm somewhat of a Gigabyte board fan, but after buying this Asus board, i think i'm inlove with this brand just that much more!

Surely the new intel cpu will use a different socket meaning you will need to replace the mobo anyhow, so whats the point of buying a ddr3 mobo if you need to change it for the new intel cpu's?

Also shock do you really think that ddr3 1333 is that much faster than ddr 800 that you should pay 3 times the amount for a 1 gb stick? i mean for one stick of ddr 3 you can almost buy 4 gigs of ddr 2 800

Yeah but i have been doing some research and the asus pQ5C is DDR2 1066 and DDR3 1333 compatible im actually quite keen on getting that board what do you think ?
