Hi Guys

I need some help getting an hsdpa booster for my house. I live on a farm and we have HSDPA on my porch but not 1.5m away in my room we have GPRS signal. I bought a k3565z modem. Is there a specific type of aerial or extension cable that will boost my hsdpa signal so that I can have it 1,5m away in my room?

I do get HSDPA when i stick my modem through my room window, but it fluctuates allot, from 23Bps to 1.6Mps in seconds. Is this normal for HSDPA or will the aerial idee help? Thanks

Poynting antenna + the universal adaptor that morkhans suggests is the way to do it.

BTW, in case you want a very cheap alternative that is useful when traveling, try this: Plug a USB extension cable (1.8m or 3m or 5m) into the computer so you can position your modem better - like high up in a window, etc.

USB Extentions

Antennas: I had the same problem....External 3G antenna and that poynting adapter will work if you can 3G just outside your home. Depending on the quantity you buy it should cost approx R1200.00 give or take R200 plus shipping. It works.

USB extentions: I have tried numerous USB extentions. I have even used USB extention adaptors + 8m RJ45 lan cable successfully on that specific modem.

The longer and poorer the cable quality the less the thing works. Usb extentions need to extend that 5Volts you get from usb port on PC to the modem and sometimes that voltage drop is to much. The expensive 5m Belkin's R150.00 usb cable doesnt work either with that modem. Ai! (wasted my $ hehe)

That modem is power hungry and might not work with poor usb extention cable.

Bottom line...get good usb extention cable that is screened and you'll have no problems and place it well. (Ideally away from Walls, Metal, or any signal eating stuff)
