Kalahari.com ready for Amazon play

I wish amazon comes to SA but is highly unlikely

.....South African online retailer, Kalahari.com says it is confident it can give Amazon a run for its money should it make a big play in SA.
Bwahahahahah. yeah right!

So if amazon don't make a move they're happy to lose that potential revenue? Kalahari is already too limited in their online offering.

I actually see this as a very interesting development, when Takealot lost their Amazon integration due to some boring policies, every Kalahari employee celebrated. As I know, Kalahari is quite very much integrated with Amazon in regard with commerce channels, limited yes, but they do represent an Amazon market locally. Quite interesting to make such remarks towards Amazon, since they will drop you quite easily in the deep end.

Seems more like old school Naspers dominance at play here...

I'll say this about Liz Hillock - she's a hotty, but that's not getting any brand loyalty.

I don't even know when the last time was I browsed that subpar site...

I think the point being with Amazon is that although Amazon carries a strong brand value, there will be several barriers of entry (nothing you can't fix with a few billion). As a start they would have to have at least 2 warehouses with advanced picking/packing capabilities. Then access to one or more logistic companies being able to cover all SA delivery areas (at cost-effective shipping rates). Lastly they would need to source products at competitive prices.

With sufficient cash an entry of Amazon into the local market would seriously challenge many online retailers but more so your conventional brick-and-mortar stores - I would see Hifi-Corp, Dionwired, Incredible, Stax, Game and many others facing serious losses or be required to change their strategies. The only reason most people purchase at malls is due to that instant gratification of an purchase and not having to wait for days for a courier to arrive (which charges high shipping fees).

Meantime they are throwing a lot more resources at Pricecheck (and SaveMeDeals) than Kalahari… I would actually support Amazon dropping them and making a small but soon to be massive Footprint in SA. It is also known to me that Amazon is pinning down a logistics-strategy in SA…

I very much doubt Amazon is going to make a play in SA anytime soon,

BUT if they did, and they did it properly with decent warehousing and courier agreements... Kalahari would suffer big time in my opinion.
