Well, let me begin at the beginning: On 26 August I ordered 2x2gb Geil DDR3 ram at kalahari.net for R510. It seemed like a great deal, as I was building my friend a nice gaming pc.

So the payment was quick and the free shipping sounded great. The rest of the pc's components was bought at Arx Valdex and some at carbonite.co.za. A The next week I received the rest of the components, so I had everything except the ram. I didn't know anyone else with a DDR3 system, so I couldn't, but wait for the ram to arrive.

Because it was a great deal, I forgave kalahari.net for the 8 days they went over their estimated shipping time. But then they I only sent one of the two promised sticks. So I figured I could just send them a email and ask for the other stick, only to get a answer that the supplier is out of stock, after the second email I sent them.

So now after more than two weeks I actually got confirmation for the first time (after about 10 emails) that they will refund me, when they've collected the ram, or give me discount. And guess what? A full 15% discount! I gave them the option to send me any kind of 2gb DDR3 ram (then I'll be losing), but they declined...

Now the choice is kind of obvious, I must return the ram. But now my friend will be without a pc for probably another two weeks, after that first week. So they've just wasted my time, I should just have bought it from someone else in the first place. Thanks kalahari!

Please move if it isn't in the correct subforum.

Yep, they really do suck on an epic scale. I've had my share of those experiences... but mine was around the time of my son's birthday. Needless to say... he never got a present on time for his birthday. One sad child.

I have bought a few things from them without any problems.

strangely enough i've not had issued with them yet compared to take2.

I think I had spent over R20,000 with them when I started having my problems. Then bam... they messed up three times in a row. Of course the money I had previously spent counted for nothing. There was just a sour attitude on their part.... and the offer of a R50 voucher.... which I never actually received.

Haha in my case, one sad friend.

But they really suck, once a graphic card was out of stock at Sybaritic and they gave me another which was about R300 more expensive... Now that was good service...

That's the thing. I dealed with them at least ten times in the past, without problems.

I don't mind if something is out of stock, or if the courier stole my package... But when the fault isn't at my side, they are suppose to cover without me having to send 100's of emails.

That is pretty useless.

I've had good luck with Kalahari so far....but I stick to books with them.

Also had problems recently.. waited 2 weeks for them to tell me there's no stock and eventually I just canceled it and ordered elsewhere.

Me and my dad ordered screens from Kalahari a couple of times and were never let down by them. R510 for 4GB DDR3 sounds too good to be true, because thats about as much as you'll be paying for a decent 2GB set normally.

The last few times that I've ordered items from Sybaritic I had big delays, but at least they came through in the end by supplying me with different components for which I paid a slight premium.

So far I've had very good experiences with WootWare and Prophecy Shop when buying PC components.

In the end I think that the biggest problem that we have is that the suppliers of our online retailers are quite poor with regards to stock availability.

I also think the problem lies with the online retailers sometimes. My supplier sends me an e-mail every morning with stock quantities on hand. Its then MY responsibility to ensure that I use that information properly.

well at least 2 wholesalers i know of sometimes have things on their pricelist without having stock first...

Pretty much the same as me, Dan C. They didnt bother telling me until I sent repeated emails. Even then it took a hellopeter complaint to get any response, and then they still took a few days to answer emails. I'll never order from them again.

My friend ordered something that supposedly had 24 hour delivery, guess what, its not here. And no communication informing him why.

Seems like you just had a poor run here. I have been shopping with Kalahari for 4 to 5 years, bought all sorts of things and they've been great.

Also not had any problems with them before, but then I've had no problems with any of my online purchases, sybaritic, pcint, take2, prophecy etc etc. You can always find a few people who had a terrible experience though.

You can always email them and request to check the stock before you order anything, otherwise it's luck of the draw.

Been buying from Kalahari since 2002 and was always impressed till December. What a disaster. Had a very unhappy daughter as all the items I ordered for her to keep herself busy in December arrived in Jan or went AWOL.

There is another thread on the forum where a whole bunch of us bought Gigabyte laptops at a great price, turned out it was an error on the price and the canceled the orders, which is fine, people make mistakes. What was not fine was the 6 weeks i waited for my reversal of payment.
