From the sound of it I doubt he is allowed to practice medicine and is probably a complimentary/alternative medicine practitioner.

It is more complicated in South Africa. The Traditional Health Practitioners Act was signed into law 2008. The government will not even admit that medicine for supernatural ailments like bad luck and magic poisoning is a bunch of crock.
