Kazaa - Is it safe (virus/spyware)?

I am thinking of downloading Kazaa but I'm a little concerned as to my pc - with regards to virus's and spyware through Kazaa?

What are your thoughts?
 
You can use Kazaa Lite, and be careful there, getting a real Kazaa Lite is tricky as hell.
Or - get and pay for Registered Kazaa. Don't even download the "free" one.

where is a "official" kazaa lite download location?
I got Norton IS 2005 - will it help?
What u mean my cap etc?!? Im not doing badly - I just wanna Ussseee my cap up and not give the balance at month end to Helkom for nada!
 
did your cap go, by you getting soooo excited and downloading the world... or does the kazzzzzzzzzzzaaaaaaa programme just keep searching for "crap" and hence using the cap?
 
Kazaa Lite was disbanded - it does not exist. It was created by a bloke who liked Kazaa, but hated the spyware included. He was gaught out and was forced to abandon the project. But - this is the Gnutella network - there are zillions of programs that use this network. A reasonable list of clients can be found at: http://www.gnutelliums.com/

These days you gotta get a huge thick condom for your connection (and bandwith/cap) or you're infected!

It is a very fast P2P program, a lot better than KaZaa. If you have Service Pack 2 for XP you might as well not even bother with KaZaa because Microsoft stuffs around with it. It goes really slow, after installing SP2 and doesn't work well.
 
I think Kazaa lite may still exist, its just VERY hard to get. But, it seems as if the network is just about useless. You keep getting corrupt stuff.

Another one is Emule www.emule-project.net has some more hard to find stuff, if youve got patience..
 
of my 1.2GB combined, 900MB was outgoing at 15K/s and the rest was incoming at a measly 4K/s. Needles to say, when i saw the traffic buildup i killed it quick, and blocked the kazaa ports on my firewall just incase anyone else here ( at home ) gets a stupid idea.

If youre on a capped link stay away from kazaa and its lookalikes

Also try a bit torrent client for downloads davep001, i found the speeds much more impressive with bit torrent than azureas,kazaa,bearshare,etc. For single songs and smaller files go for limewire,its also excellent but for large files use a torrent client :D

The best ever P2P app in my own opinion and on the best nework ... been using it for almost 2 years now ... however bear in mind it's not based on the gnutella network ... prerequisite for emule .. is Patience you must have patience and lots of it!!!

b.t.w I normally install Kazaa Lite ++ as well for small quick downloads like ebooks and stuff

Is it safe ? Any of these things ? Well - most of the free spyware removers will keep you pretty clean, the problem is that the stuff you download could be something else that you innocently launch and BOOM - Welcome to PC cleanup hell. But that's any P2P type thing. The cure ? Experience. Good luck.
 
Well I never ever had any problem with emule ... there are lots of mods out there with emule and emule doesn't have any spyware whatsoever it's a community based project developed to work on the eDonkey network ... tools include : Fake-checking, File Rating/Flagging, Commenting, intergrated IRC client, Friend Slots ( You can make some peers your friends and give them priority over others if you've got a fil they want/need), You can even send a message/chat to a person who's got the file you need, may also give you priority over other peers... lots more tools ..emule is the bombdiggy!!

Well as for protection ... basics : AVG + ZoneAlarm and for added emule protection : Protowall and Blocklist Manager ( you'll be surprised where some packets come and go!!!) these two block packets from enetering your pc and going to places you don't want to go like RIAA.
 
I have used Kazaa for years since it came out .Naturally one must untick ALL POSSIBLE offers etc.. BUT for a small price I can recommend LIMEWIRE I think it is faster cleaner better and less fuss on the screen for less than 20$ ...but knowing that the Kazaa CREATOR is THE SKYPE creator also I can only take my heat off . I wish I'd get 1% only off all his paying ONLINE SKYPE minutes even at 0.02c I'll still would make a VERY GENEROUS income :-)
 
My 2 cents worth

I can really recommend Shareaza. Its opensource (thus free & free of spyware & crap) It connects to Gnutella, & Edonkey. I even use it as my bittorrent client.
It really is brilliant
 
remember the exe file

BE CAREFULL when downloading exe files through p2p networks.Sometimes antivirus programs dont pick up worms until you open to install a program.Then it might be to late.I had a worm installed through lime wire,but lucky for me i downloaded a removal tool to remove it after it was detected buy norton.TIP to p2p ...run a virus scan on the downloaded programs file of your p2p network.A another warning if you see a task running in task manager{p2pnetwork.exe}YOU are F@#$ED. :eek:
