So I'm seriously considering the switch from AH to Mweb, the only thing stopping me is my AH e-mail address.

I use it quite extensively, and i was wondering if I changed my AH package to just the Free 1GB deal they offer, will I keep my e-mail address, at least until I get around to switching everyone and everything?

Anyone know?

+1 :)

To answer the OP though,

If you do the switch either your email will not exist anymore or you will be able to pay them per month for the address. You'll have to contact live support and ask them how it works if it's possible

All you have to do is downgrade to 1GB free package, you still will have your email address. Don't cancel your product, must downgrade using client zone. If cancel your product you will surely lose you email.

Firstly - are you very sure MWEB is the way to go? Im not trying to degrade MWEB through any means, but out of curiosity, why them?

Secondly - Im sure it says you keep your email address for life? Ill check quick

EDIT: Can't find it anymore. But downgrading your account to free 1GB will keep your addresses :)

Bit of a useless response, don't you think?

I don't think so, LOL was for changing to MWEB. If your usage above 50GB stay away! Afrihost support is crappy now days but they products are still good, If you said openweb will have being different story.

I still don't get it that people use their isp email address as their main email address. There are so many options available. I try to educate my own customers on this, but some just keep doing it

As long as you keep a Free 1GB account with them you can keep your email address. I've been doing this for ages.

They're not like other ISP's that hold your email hostage. :)

Thanks all.

As to the "Why". I do, on average, 100GB - 120GB a month on a 4MB Uncapped account, mostly streaming. If I can do this for R150- cheaper on an Mweb account, why not.

I've read all the issues everyone's experienced with Mweb (and others), but I've read just as many posts of people moving away from AH for exactly the same reasons. I don't have any issues with AH apart from the shaping from Day 1, GB 1 each month on torrents and P2P, but money talks.

Remember - you wont manage 120GB on a normal account - you will have to go premium if I am not mistaken. I think normal accounts are shaped at ~60GB if i'm not mistaken :)

Yeah it's totally stupid. There is absolutely no reason or excuse to use an ISP-provided email account. Even ignorance is not a valid excuse any more.
