Keeping the chin up

I remember I used to work at the FNB call center about 9 years back ... selling credit cards, petrol cards, balance transfers etc

Our basic was R6,000.00 - which wasn't bad for the time - but our commission actually rocked. We'd get R100.00 for every balance transfer sold ... so not being a great salesman, I'd be selling around 25-35 per month take my salary to about R10,000.00.

BUT we had some sales people that were salesgods ;) They'd be doing 3 or 4 per day taking their salary to around R14,000.00pm back then

I must have a fierce inborn aversion to phone sales, because I have never and will never buy anything being sold to me over a phone. You can have any trick up your sleeve, it will just not work for me. When I answer the phone and someone tries to sell me something in what they think is a subtle way, I get very irritated, espcially if they cannot cut to the chase and tell me straight on that they are trying to sell something and exactly what it will cost me.

I think it's like hypnotism, some people are susceptible to it and others not.
 
I can ask my mate about a managing job at a food place.You live in johannesburg?
 
I live near Cape Town right now. Well I didn't need one when I was living in UK. Cost was too high over there

Unless the job demands that the person drives, I do not see the need for that to be a job requirement. If a job is office bound, why the need ?

For a call centre it's not important (so long as she can get to work, obviously) but if she wants an au pair job a drivers license is essential. Plus, just having one just opens up so many more opportunities. Having a car helps too...

Not all jobs are office hours.
I worked in a call centre for a while ,road side assistance. It was shift work, 6am - 2pm or 2pm - 10pm. There is no way i could have done it relying on public transport.
Many call centres work shifts that require early start times or late finishing times.

I cannot tell u how weird this is for me to read! My GF is also from the UK, she's also struggling to find a job, she has worked in call centre environments and is good at sales and currently looking for a position in one, as well as looking for Au Pair positions as she has experience in that too... She does have a drivers, but we cant afford a car for her which seems to just take away 90% of jobs offered... It's like having a discusiion with my GF all over again! WEEEEIRRRRRD!

Goodluck by the way! Just keep trying and something WILL come, it always does!

Ye - we met people like you often :P

It was upsetting when we knew the product would suit them but they were totally against even listening and wanted nothing to do with us.

Try get in touch with Direct Axis. They are a huge call centre in Diep River. They have shuttle services and pay really well from what i hear. Go put your details up there and i am sure you will get offered something! They are always expanding their employee database.

Try Teletech, if all else fails. All you take in is your I'd and matric results and you're hired! My ex was the manager there, weird scumbag he was :p

+2 to this. I used to work for them. STRESS that you worked in the UK - they love this. They have quite a few UK call desk positions - Barclays, Littlewoods, Woolich etc. I did offshore collections / loans for them. Pay was certainly better than the other part time work I could find. I still have friends working there - I could probably ask if anything was available.
