Keeping up with the Joneses

That really grinds me:mad: I had 'friends' who had no personality or individual identity and decided to imitate mine. So Poor! Be original FFS. Recently whats been annoying is when people double my age ask me where i shop and buy the same things :erm:

Yeah, it is an insecurity thing. They feel less of themselves if they don't have what you have or better. Its sad yet annoying.

Im sure you meant we don't need.

I would say in fact both.

Yep I have someone like this in my life. Actually 2 someones = a married couple. If you say you want to go down to Durban and relax on the beach, they are making plans to join you. Without being invited, they just have to be there, cant feel left out. Same applies to belongings, they will throw themselves head first into massive debt, just to keep up the appearance that they are doing well.

I have met others before, they don't remain permanent features in my life though. Unfortunately due to family ties, I cant get rid of this particular couple.

I have found that it is usually the "lesser" loved sibling that grows up to be like this. Only children tend to not be great sharers. Lesser loved siblings tend to constantly be searching for ways to gain acceptance and love from others. Hating the feeling of being left out, because that reminds them of their childhood.

Disclaimer* Lesser loved sibling does not always mean that the parents loved them less, just that that is how they perceived things.

sounds like you are a bunch of windgat guys and your friends have to get the same as you to get you to STFU about how awesome you are.

Looks like this thread touched a nerve. Quick, spot the copycat.

You are on the money there. . . .The lesser loved sibling definitely comes into my scenario.

Ag shame man, don't worry we weren't talking about you. Promise!

Yeah I'm going on a cruise at the end of the year and some people are already hinting on going on one as well next year. Nobody asked them not to think of it first :D

It's actually funny for me that their lives are so sad.

Yeah and everbody going after you is copying you.
It's like my last vacation I took, I was a bit lazy to shave. Only to hear, after 3 or 4 days, from my niece, that I was copying her husband, that was trying to grow a beard..... Millions of people grow beards, millions of people go on boat trips, millions of people buy Nikes.... its not to say they're copycats, just because they knew you, right?

Wtf are you on about? Have you read through the whole thread? Because your questions have already been answered :/

I have family like that. Always comparing & trying to compete with me.

My aunt took it one step too far. I was living in a very tiny house while busy saving up for my *dream house*. She hated visiting because she always ended up sleeping in the livingroom :(

She demolished her house to build a new one just so she could *show the working people (myself) what real houses look like*.
Now she is drowning in debt & indirectly blaming me for *leading her astray*

How could you lead your aunt astray like that...

Its just not on.... you should pay her debts and make her feel better that she's better than you.

I am paying her debts - indirectly. I took in her daughter & she only contributes R150 per month for transport. The rest is on me, but she is still complaining about being broke every month.

You are taking R150 from her?!?!?!

How could you, you thieving miscreant.

You should give it all back to her with interest.... and you should take in her husband as well.... she can't have the burden of having to look after any of them whilst she's busy being better than you.

and thats how she can afford groupon vouchers ...by taking money from other people :D

bwahahahahah! Maybe I should take in her husband as well  he is a hottie & so much younger than her
