A friend (not with Discovery so not entitled to a Vitality discount) wants to fly to London in December. Cheapest airlines? Yes, I know, I also don't understand why she would wait until now to book ... madness

Kenya Airways any good? Or just settle on Emirates?

if they with investec use https://flight.travelbyinvestec.co.za/

check here for flights

If there is a big difference in price, Kenya is good for what you pay.
If there is no big difference, then Emirates. But Kenya airways is good value for money

Approx the same price, both around R24 000 for a return flight.

Then I would rather stick with emirates.
The football World Cup in Qatar has increased all flights to that area by double, so she will have to pay.

Nothing wrong with Kenya Airways at all in my past experience. The new terminal at JKIA is also fine. KQ might be quicker than Emirates depending on the connection times? Of course, things do change over time.

We had a family trip to the Mara in May, with flights on Kenyan Airways departing at 23pm.

As we're getting ready to head to CTIA at around 6pm, I quickly check Flightaware to see how far the incoming flight is.

Imagine my surprise when I see that it never left Nairobi!

Call the airline offices in CT, and they confirm that the flight is cancelled - I have yet to receive ANY notification of this.

While on the phone with the KA staff, they tell us to get to CTIA *now*, so that we can get onto an 8pm SAA flight, and then catch the 1am KA flight from ORTIA. About 10 min later, while our Uber is racing to the airport, they call back to say they couldn't get us on the flight.

So back home we went, and then we left the next day, having lost a whole 24H of safari.

And then... On the way back to CT, we get to the airport for our 3pm flight. Guess what... we only left at 9pm, with barely any notification that we were being delayed. Hell, at 7pm, all the board were still showing the plane being on time.

A complete shitshow, and friends who travel that way often are always getting delayed/cancelled flights with no warning.

TLDR; Avoid KA, rather fly with Ethiopian, much more reliable, and much better planes as well.

I flew with them once through to the congo 4 years ago delayed three hours there and then delayed three hours back

I have a beef with Emirates so I'll fly with Kenya over them any day of the week. Flew to EBB earlier this year and had no problems. Seemed like a brand new Dreamliner.

On the whole I prefer flying direct to UK on Virgin.

Flying direct is cheap if you book long enough in advance. Kenyan and Ethiopian airlines both good options, I would avoid TAAG

need to fly to potugal next year and taag was almost half the time - flight is in sept so maybe there will be more flights later...

Did this flight 5 years ago (was like R6k), aircon and multi media didn't work on the way there and had a massive lay over / delay issue like 8 hours stuck in the plane on the way back. Things might have changed but in future I would pay more and fly a different airline.

Ah ok will check again in Dec/Jan and ask for other ppl insights.

I would say good luck with the visa more than anything especially this close as it was a nightmare precovid.
She is very uninformed and disorganised. No idea how she will manage to get it because don't you need flight bookings for a visa?

If you watch Air Crash investigations, it's a No no!

Captain "We're crashing"
Second Officer "Yeah we crashing"
