Kenya to build undersea cable

Well done Kenya. Show everyone the way forward.

For shame Ivy.

I can just shake my head in wonderment when thinking about how truly pathetic our goverment is. Kenya want their whole country to prosper, SA wants only a select few to prosper.
Pathetic.

$110 million for an undersea cable? Telkom could build 18 of these cables with it's profits from 2005/6 alone!!!

The decision came weeks after Kenya refused to sign up to a 23-nation plan to build an undersea telecommunications cable, the Eastern Africa Submarine System (EASSy), after disagreeing with South Africa about the cost and management of the project.

Why does this not surprise me. It's always South Africa and the DOC throwing a spanner in the works. The DOC obviously wants full control of this future cash-cow. And then people still want Dr. Beetroot to be sacked, rather call for the head of her posionous Ivy instead.

Would be interesting if SA providers that have international bandwidth licenses hook up to Kenya - LOL (What an embarassment). Now that would be the way to go! Would work out cheaper since the DoC won't have 1 iota of input/say. :D :D :D

This is really fantastic news.

They threatened to do it months ago because of South Africa's bullyboy tactics trying to strongarm control.

Well done KENYA!!!!!!!

Hahahahaha. I hope our DoC is crying in their Lobster Soup. ****ing morons.

Has anyone contacted the DoC for comment on this story?

Now i just hope kenya sells line access for dirt cheap to its neighbours and bam Telkom is out of luck selling in that region :P

This is really good news!

Kenya not deciding to go with EASY humiliates fat Ivy and the extra Kenya cable link will bring much needed added competition.
