And he should have been and it only takes 1 offense and then you earn the label of dirty player. Every incident after the 1st could carry heavy penalties.. If he had been penalized for that spear tackle you might find that 2 or 3 more incidents over the next 5 years might have got him a hearing with the judiciary but he got off in 2005 so maintains his clean record. The focus is never on him like it is on the Bakkies and Schalks of the world.
These AB's are as dirty as the best of them but are just so subtle and diplomatic about it that they get away with it. Richie's the master!!

if he gets off because he has a clean record what stops any other player in any team with a clean record doing the same and pleading "i have a clean record", you end up with 10 players in a team who have clean records doing something to other players and getting away with it.

Mealamu might not be a dirty player if one looks at his record, but that incident, he was all dirty, and deserves the ban.

Mealamu's ban has just been halved after his appeal was heard today.
I am seriously thinking the All Blacks have serious dirt on IRB memebers. How else do you explain this bullcrap!

Agree, absolutely pathetic
Not worth 8 weeks if it was his first offence, but to halve it just makes a mockery of the laws of rugby and sends the wrong message about the sport
