I am currently uncapped, and can not access the following services:

- MSN
- IRC
- FTP

MSN mentions something about key ports being effected. Does anyone here know what causes this type of problem? Am in the Craighall area in Jozi.

MSN mentions those Key Ports very often, its more likely something wrong with your settings, those services work on iBurst.

This may sound weird.. but is your MTU set to 1352? It affects those kinds of things.

I have personally used all of the above in the last 2 weeks, and everything works perfectly. Must be some issue on your side...

Im also capped and also get a few problems every now and then with MSN. (Windows Live Messenger v8.0)
Just try every now and then!

Services currently not working:

- MSN
- Yahoo
- Any http port not on port 80, ie https, control panels, etc (no banking sites etc)
- IRC ... it connects... well a little, about half way into the login it bails.

Im connecting through a linksys router running dd-wrt. Have disabled the firewall on it. (I reset the router, set it to connect using PPPOE) and its running DHCP.

I have reset all the machines, the router and the iburst desktop modem multiple times. Am also not capped.

All machines on the network are unable to access the above services, and I disabled my personal firewall. Nothing seems to work.

search the iburst forums cuz there was a similiar problem with some kind of resolution where routers not connecting to the services you describe were used.

i know iburst will say mtu but i swear sometimes it does help to check the mtu settings on the router.

also have you tried the utd connected directly to a pc?

Well, lol, this sound like exactly the opposite of Cap Of Death. You are normally able to access all of those service and nothing else while cap of death'ed.

I'm not sure about your problem though... is your MTU set to 1352 for a start?

I had the same problem

When I first loaded dd-wrt on my linksys router I had the same problem were I could not connect to MSN. The one guy on the forum told me to change the MTU settings and it worked for me. I am actually on Sentech and I thought it would not work. But hey it did so who am I to argue

Do you know where to setup the MTU on the router? Or does it have to be on the PC?

Okay, no one is allowed to laugh. It was the MTU setting. Lol. Everything working now. Thanks chaps.

Not laughing

No worries. I am not going to laugh I struggled for 2 days with this problem. Thank goodness there was someone in the Forum who could help me out.

Share the info. Someone helped me. I got to help you so pass it on when you see the same problem.

haahahahahahahhaahahahahahahhahahaha.... urm ya it's the damn mtu :P

HEHEHE for once changing the MTU actually does help. Most of the time it is just used as an excuse. Well any case, congrats on coming right. Now I just need iBurst to sort out my problem for me, and then i wll be really happy.

Hahahahaha, I laughed too, sorry :p

Maybe we should do the unthinkable, sticky a MTU thread :O

but then the iBurst helpdesk might as well close down.
