Keyboard Opinions

I have the Gigabyte Osmium mechanical keyboard with white backlighting and brown switches. Absolutely love it. Looks very similar to the K70, which is why I bought it. Can't stand macro keys on the sides of a keyboard.

My only issue with those keyboards are the uneven palm rest. Logitech had a similar, but more alien, design with their G910 Orion Spark, and curved keys which generally was a bad overall design. I am generally okay with macro keys on the side, only when it is used by the user otherwise it is an annoyance.

I have the G910 Orion Spectrum which is the 'corrected' revision.

I see more and more people go with the Corsair K65 nowadays, as they do not want an numpad. Many which happens to be dedicated WoW players.

What's uneven about the K70? Looks dead straight to me, and is pretty much my idea of the perfect keyboard:

I'd have bought one if it wasn't so expensive and the Osmium wasn't such good value at the time.

My keyboard does have an uneven rest:

Maybe my method of touch typing is just unconventional (not the F & J centred method), but the palm rest has never been an issue for me. As for macros, if my left hand isn't against the left edge of the keyboard (more or less, based on pinky position mostly) then I need to look at the keyboard to get my bearings. Same goes for quick numpad selections, as I feel for the + key. I've used other keyboards with macros on the sides and it does my head in.

When I bought my keyboard the RGB K70 didn't exist. Now that it does I really covet it. Almost certainly my next keyboard.

I'm talking about the Gigabyte Aivia Osmium, though it may suit many other people,

The Corsair K70 RGB has been replaced by the K70 RGB LUX which has subtle changes like new keycaps, 2nd gen cherry switches (red/brown) and resolved an issue with the lightning controller. There are still K70 RGB keyboards available, but is slightly more expensive. The K70 RGB Rapidfire has 1.2mm mechanical actuation where the LUX has 2mm mechanical actuation.

I have noted returns, here and there, on the Corsair keyboards regarding these issues,

and though those threads highlight the K70 it is not limited to the K70.

Looks like the same keyboard I posted above? My hands rest along the top half of the rest, so makes no difference to me if it curves away along the bottom. Especially underneath the numpad.

I haven't stayed in the loop regarding keyboards for quite a while. Whatever the latest RGB K70 is, is what I would buy when the time finally comes. My Osmium has been super durable though, and looks and functions like the day I got it. Could last a while still, which is fine by me I guess. I like the brown switches and the keyboard in general. Although the only switches I've used that would drive me up the wall are blue ones - so damn clicky.

Yup, I only realised when you made this post that you have posted your keyboard.

The Osmium has Cherry switches so it will be okay to last until it eventually gives in. The Logitech Omron switches are something between the Cherry Reds and Browns, and it does not CLICK or CLACK, but there is a metallic sound to it which I am very sensitive too.

Once you go Cherry, it is very hard to switch over to other switches, especially being used to a Corsair K-series. The Omron switch is no easy switch to get used to and close’ish to a membrane keyboard, but with a clear actuation when used.

The only reason why I opt to go Logitech was due to me typing all day long, but Cherry beats it at gaming hands down. I am also quicker on the Cherry RapidFire switches, it’s 1.2mm actuator seems to be my sweetspot where the Omron Romer-G switch comes in at 1.5mm.

As membrane keyboards go… hmmm, Steelseries Apex, Logitech G105, Speedlink ACCUSOR/PARTHICA Core, etc…

Many people have a craze going with ReDragon, but I have seen many returns on their peripherals, though I have no experience with their peripherals other than selling them. I also have no experience with Razor, Cougar, Gigabyte/Aorus, etc. keyboards.
