KFC Double Down

I dunno? Liquid smoke plus bbq sauce. Knowing KFC they've added sugar, white pepper and onion powder for good measure...

I think it was more like some thai/asian type soya sauce thing though, and not BBQ.
I only had it once a few months ago, so I can't say for sure.

Then try this:

splash of soy sauce
dollop of hoisin sauce
sprinkle of chinese 5 spice seasoning
tiny splash of rice wine vinegar
chilli powder
crushed garlic
two drops of liquid dmoke

Allow to sit in fridge for half an hour before using.

Roast salted chicken wings in muffin trays until crispy (the fat falls into the muffin trays and you can use it again). Once they're crispy, toss in the sauce, and enjoy immediately...

How much was the double crunch ?

Its been a while since they had that though. Pretty much the same thing.... but without the bun.

I saw the single fillet burger is R24, so if you consider that 2 of those would be R48. Then you paying R45 for 2, without the buns, a slice of salty chicken and a different sauce.

Oh I ****ing wish they bring back Double Crunch! Was my fave

But I think you mean the double down?

It's R40.90

with Chips and a Coke (can) It's R60.90

I opted without the "meal" option because paying R20 for a coke and a few chippies is ridiculous.

IMO the Box Master doesn't even come close to this in terms of volume and taste

Did some googeling and apparently the correct term was "Sweet Oriental sauce" if that helps.

I'll try making the sauce, somerset has a chinatown mini mall and i'll probably be able to get those ingredients there.
I'm not making the wings myself though - KFC wings are cheap!

No more so than paying R40-odd for two bits of oily chicken, some processed 'cheese' and a bit of non-bacon.

a) Wasn't oily at all
b) They weren't bits, in fact, it was about 3cm thick each, quite moist and bigger than you'd get on a normal burger (and not as dry)
c) The "non-bacon" was actually a good combination with it, and had a similar taste/smell (although real bacon would definitely be nicer)
d) The processed "cheese" and sauce with it does go well with everything. I prefer it to a cheese burger from them (or from McDonalds) because of the taste of the processed "cheese"

Like I said, I actually enjoyed it, for the price you pay for an entire meal I'd rather get the Fully Loaded Box meal. Or go to Spar and buy burger ingredients and make 4 yum bacon egg and real cheese burgers

hahah true 8 wings for r30

almost the same as raw chicken wings

Might not have been dripping, but it's oily by the very nature of how it's prepared.

That, however, is merely ancillary to the point that paying R40 for 2 bits of chicken and some non-bacon is no less ridiculous than paying R20 for a Coke and 10 chips.

Had it last night, it was delicious. But why not put two buns at the top and bottom of the two chicken pieces?

I think it's quite sad how so many promotions have come and gone so quickly and how I wish some of them became apart of the actual menu because I find the menu to be a joke really. I was totally blown away with the menu that I saw from the New Zealand KFC, there are like 50 more meals to choose from.

Because then you'd have to call it a double burger, and nobody would've had this conversation...

Your absurdly long link just spins circles on my tabs.

Regardless, my butcher sells chicken wings for R29/kg. From proper, local, unbulked, unfrozen, plump chickens. He'll even cut them into segments for me at no added cost. Support a butcher - save money - eat better food - support local industry. Not sure why most people don't do it...

i must try one and i like that :)

BTW, chicken wings make the best chicken stocks, especially if you sprinkle some skim milk powder over them beforehand...;)
