KFC for convicts

Speaking to The Star on Monday, the MEC said they had decided to buy KFC for the convicts as they would have been charged “an arm and a leg by caterers”.

Not if you are competent enough to know that you can specify that you're only willing to pay so much per head you idiot. You can't just send out a blank cheque for someone to supply catering for 2000 people.

If you're a begger on the street, sleeping under a pile of boxes at night, empty stomach ... Doesn't the prison sound like an exclusive getaway retreat ?

so soon the sign will say add hope and feed a prisoner for R2 with a picture of a thin sad looking prisoner?

Not like it happens every single day. Fsck me we have other things to worry about. R60,000 <- not really a big number now is it.

That money was budgeted to her program so it was never going to go to the poor. I don't approve of them buying KFC for convicts but there are bigger things to "outcry" about than a sum of money that was spent on food that basically amounts to somebody's monthly salary.

Indirectly the prison also saved on serving one rotation of food.

Start a crowdfund to "Show the minister how wrong she was" and you'll have more than R60,000 by end of day. Go do something good - go on!

I have no issue with this. Our prisons are not currently reforming many criminals. Perhaps a more caring system that actually tries to teach people to value themselves and others higher will have more success? Certainly seems to be working for the Nordick countries.

Personally I don't have a problem with prison programs aimed at encouraging and rehabilitating criminals AFTER they have served their sentences. But I do have a problem with the priorities here. We should not be spending money on criminals while law abiding citizens are going hungry and homeless in our country.

We don't have people of the Nordic race in our prisons.
