Okay I've had some thoughts spinning around my head and figured why not do this while the car is still new and get the most use out of it.

Our Picanto has 3 or 4 blank switches there in front of the gear lever so I figured why not build my Garage Door and Gate Opener in there.

So the first question is where on earth would you find these switches? Is it only a Kia direct thing? Googling I'm not asking the right questions it seems.

Then the more important factor is how would I go about making them into RF buttons? Buy some loose ones and dismantle them to put them in there somehow? Or is there a better/easier/simpler way?

This actually seems like the least painful way to go about it just wire all 3/4 buttons into existing remote.

So if I could just find the switches that should be a half day job and no need to run power to it or anything.

What about looking at a way to drill a hole into the existing blank plates? Then have the button either sticking out for you to push it?

I reckon that would be uglier then just sticking the existing remote to the dash.

I'm going by the assumption that these switches shouldn't cost much and that I would leave them blank or even have fake info on them so nobody would know what they actually do.

Could try putting a bigger rubber switch over it, if done right it would just be a little button poking through not even really noticeable. Have you perhaps asked Kia? Checked at scrap yards?

And if your car gets stolen they have access to your gate and garage. Don't tell the insurance.

That would be the case now if they steal the car as the remote is laying about in the car and the case for most people I would imagine.

So this would actually make it safer as it would be camouflaged.

Overseas this still is actually built in with what they call Homelink.

Sauron you can get them printed on too. Could have an M switch, Race, Drift Mode, Super Saiyan, Diff Lock, Turbo Encabulation

I think none of those are applicable to this car. :)

They’re blanking plates, nothing you put is going to be applicable to the car, so have fun with it.

Expelliamus, Thou Shalt Not Pass, Beam Me Up...man I can think of tons of fun buttons

Incognito Mode for those urban spy missions when you just can't figure out whose dog it is that keeps on taking a dump on your lawn

Well as per the link above they would have the OEM heated seat and steering wheel and stuff on.

Now knowing other countries have that I feel ripped off. :)

Never look at the specs of an overseas model and compare ours, we are always below :-(

Yeah I'm just amazed that a car in this class would have a heated steering wheel and adaptive cruise control at all.

You can safely do this with presidents. Our old model came with looting, pillaging, stealing, lying and plundering which many overseas models don't have.

Although, sadly ours didn't include the Pronunciation feature pack :(

Put "Racing mode" on one of those buttons, wire it via a NC latching relay to the fuel pump. Worst getaway car yet! Well if you're robbing a bank and your getaway car is a Picanto, you should reconsider your career choice anyway :D

This is a great idea, I will do the same... It seems like you know what's needed just the execution to tackle, Let us know how it goes and if you run into any trouble.

Maybe put the remote in an accessible area, you don't wana open the dashboard everytime you hit a pothole and the battery pops out, at least until you know everything works smoothly.

I definitely agree with printing creative pictures or words on the buttons...
