Kia Replacement Blank Switches

You are a legend.

That looks correct I just need to check the actual car.

You're welcome man!

Well as per the link above they would have the OEM heated seat and steering wheel and stuff on.

Now knowing other countries have that I feel ripped off. :)

I know the feeling! We really do miss out on a lot of stuff!

Put "Racing mode" on one of those buttons, wire it via a NC latching relay to the fuel pump. Worst getaway car yet! Well if you're robbing a bank and your getaway car is a Picanto, you should reconsider your career choice anyway :D

You gotta start somewhere...

It would probably not make any cost sense even if the option was there.

Heated seats would have been nice for the wife. I never used them except to prank passengers.

Those switches are latching ie. Press to switch on, press again to switch off. You will need to make it non - latching. Best bet will be to build a non latching switch into that housing otherwise it will just continue to transmit.

Yeah that is what I feared might be the case.

But other switches in the car aren't like that. They click and pop out again, presumably to a relay or something external that actually does the switching.

So I'm not convinced these are latching units.

Do you know this for a fact?

Especially the seat heater switch can't be latching as it's a 3-way switch so there has to be something external counting those steps.

Now that you mention that...maybe they not latching. The only way to know for sure is to test.

I'm not too familiar with the layout on the KIA but have you considered using the anti hijack switches and mount them under the dash within reach? I know those arent latching and can be mounted anywhere.

Yeah did figure could use other switches and hide somewhere else, but then I might as well just stick on the remote.

Blank switches just irritate me in cars so thought I would make use of them.

You know what I realised this is all very silly and old fashioned backwards thinking.

What I'm going to do instead is get an RF Bridge integrated in my house for HomeKit.

Then I can simply program a second and tell Siri I'm home as I come around the corner and it will disable alarm, open gate and open garage door.

That way it will work with anything going forward including when I'm on the bike.

Hmmm did this come to you in a dream? Lol i joke, it sounds plausible, but the risk is that it can work from anywhere, if siri "eve drops" on your conversation you could unknowingly be having an open house...

very clever idea, and put some sport pedals and a fake air scoop
maybe even a nice big exhuast, and some sport steering wheel,
It already has the pedals and the steering wheel out of the box lol.

You are way too paranoid.

I've been looking into HomeKit integration for a while now and fortunately it has a double confirmation for this kind of thing if not at the location.

Also this isn't Google...Siri doesn't eavesdrop.

You can actually fully automate this based on location and everyone leaving the house etc to auto arm. I won't do that though because using the RR gateway I won't have the status of everything sent back to HomeKit.

That's a future project for another house or if I replace stuff.

The fact that it can work for anywhere is a major benefit as I can open for friends and family if I run late or even give them temporary Keys etc.

Well it is the future I suppose, if you have the knowhow then go for it.

Just use the existing blanks, neatly drill holes in the center of each and then fit push button switches.

The challenge is finding nice looking switches but theres plenty on Rs or comnunica, the right switch gives a clean industrial look or whatever the case may be.
