I am in the market for a new car. This will also be my "first" car. I am looking at the above mentioned car, but they say it's out of stock. Their, kia people I spoke to, reason is that Kia is busy shipping in the sedan of the car which has "just been introduced". When I ask for ETA, they say they can't tell exactly and it's been a month already. They estimate a wait of about 3 months. For a first time buyer, that's a long wait. Not to mention that I thought I would have a car by the end of this month.

Is there anyone here who knows anyone who can maybe provide more info or put me on the list of the first people that will get the car on the next shipping? How does the sedan look compared to the hatch? Is it worth the wait or should I look somewhere else? Please guys, I'm desperate here. I am 25, btw, and not have a car. Imagine the pressure and inconvenience I get daily with the public transport.

Please help if you can.

Apparently I took the last Rio Sedan in the Country - got it last week Wednesday. I would definitely say that it is worth the wait - it is an amazing car. I also wanted the hatch, but I'm so glad I took the sedan, it has so much space inside and the boot is huge. The lady at Kia said they should get a shipment of the sedans in by the end of July, but there is a worldwide problem with the hatch, the waiting list at the Centurion branch is up to 6 months so its a big problem.

i have the hatch back and i personally think the Rio hatch looks better.... "no stock in the whole SA" they always say that. i got mine back in January, 1 dealer told me the same. 5min later i phoned another a dealer and they had 10 in stock, 2 of each colour.

I have a Kia Rio hatchback. Amazing car :)

Call Kathryn from Kia in Bryanston. She might be able to hook you up.

There are always stock problems at Kia...

Yep, been waiting since the beginning of March... Couldn't even get a thumb suck date from any KIA dealerships in Pretoria.
Went to Hyundai - got a new Accent after 3 weeks (damn you MFC!), in the colour I wanted.

Apparently KIA in Mokopane have a whole bunch of hatchbacks.

Still sour over the whole experience, but still believe KIA offers the best deal for the money you pay.
(BTW - the car I traded in was a 2007 KIA Rio :wtf:)

@ Jord@n, I have just given the lady a call and she says the same thing. But she apparently got one last week and is now hopeful that Kia will ship more since the demand is hugely insane. She says they're promised that they will get stock in July, but she doesn't know when exactly in July. The good thing is that she has promised to put me at the top of her list for the car and she is really hopeful because of the 1.2 she got last week. I will keep call anyone and everyone I hear about until I get this baby. So excited! Thanks a lot mate. I hope this pans out...soon. :)

@ Roxi, so you reckon if I get my hands on the sedan, I should take it? I really don't mind it, but I like the hatch more. Won't a 25yr old male look a bit "out of place" in a sedan? I don't want people to think I'm driving my dad's car. I really don't mind it. I'll be test driving the sedan now at 11 and if I like it, I'll take it. But I want to exhaust my search first.

@Shinji, how reliable is your source? I will call that branch and find out in a minute. If anything comes up, I will let you guys know.

Thanks a lot for all the replies. I'm grateful :) :)

I think the sedan looks better and I am a 25 year old male.. not that age or gender has anything to do with it.

Sadly this is the biggest problem with KIA, there new models demand is always much greater than what they can supply. Its been like that on the Koup, Sportage and now the Rio all in the last year or two. I have seen these cars on gumtree 2nd hand going for more than they cost new. So much for kak resale ;)

I bought a 2012 Kia Rio 1.2 Hatchback in January. It has 11 000km, smash and grab, mags, 4 year service plan and 4 year maintenance plan. How much do you think I can sell it for if I decide to sell it?

Awesome to release a car that is so popular and well priced.

FAIL if you can't supply stock. Same happened with the Sportage and Cerato.

Call more dealerships.

I must say, of all the small hatch to sedan conversions, the Kia Rio looks the best. I mean, the Fiesta hatch is a good looking car, but the sedan...

I was at Kia Sandton the other week and the guy there was showing me the list for the Rio 1.4 Tec. The people who put their names down in December are only getting theirs now and there was still another 2 or 3 A4 pages of peoples names after that. The whole 3 month waiting list they try to use is just a bunch of BS in my opinion.

That said, the Rio 1.4 Tec is an awesome car and my name is on that list :'( So my lil' Corsa is just gonna have to last another 6 months or so :p

I agree to an extent.. but they have sold plenty... its not like they only brought 10 in. The stock problem is world wide, KIA has been selling 20+ % more cars year on year for the past three years. Four years ago they were nowhere, today Hyundai/Kia are in the top 4 car manufacturers in the world if you look at volumes.

It all comes down to value for money. The Kia Picanto is much better value for money than a VIVO for instance.

Fair enough. And they are not the only brand with stock issues. But you would think they would have seen this coming and made provisions to ensure they bring in enough stock to supply demand. I am no expert so what I just said may mean peanuts to a industry professional.

Bought 1.4 Sedan last week. Last three weeks had the option between 3 different ones. Just phone dealers every week. New stock cancellations etc. Were chasing 4 dealers in Gauteng.
