So I have a December 2011 Kia Sportage, Manual, 2l (not the 4x4) with 31 000km. Lately I have had a few issues, was wondering if anyone else has had similar issues.

Personally I find the clutch action to be quite difficult... had it looked at 3 times, Kia SA said it was normal. Fine, I accepted that and have persevered with it, I can change quite smoothly now.

But now just in the last 2 months I have picked up 3 issues:

1) My right side headlamp has developed cracks, theres never been an impact to it, the plastic shows no signs of an impact, abrasions or scratches. It looks brand new with exception of these hairline cracks (you cant even feel them, they are inside the plastic)

Kia reckons they never had any problems with headlight plastics doing this ... so I must have done something. I call BS!

2) Last week I noticed that the back lights (small ones on the bumper - break lights?) are peeling ??? wtf???

3) Today, my petrol gauge and the electronic meter that shows how many km left before needing petrol don't seem to be in synch ???

Any others with a Sportage with these issues???
 
A mate of mine sold his because of constant gearbox and clutch problems.
I would fight tooth and nail about the headlights and tail lights though, that is just not cool. A number of fine cracks must be a result of bad plastics.
 
Definitely bad plastics and that Range distance and fuel guage are a joke!

The joys of buying Korean - they still have some catching up to do, particularly on the plastics, funnily enough. Every time we trade in a Kia or a Hyundai, the interior plastics look 17 years older than the rest of the car.
 
I have a 2.0 crdi auto and haven't had any problems what so ever, besides a irritating rattle in the left front door. 2012 model with 40000 on it

Other than those cosmetics, I like the car, good power (a bit heavy on petrol). I find it very comfy.

I have seen VW's with worse interior wear than much older Hyundai's. The worse one was a family member's car that was bought new only a few years ago, and I was shocked at how bad it looked. I always took them for people who looked after their stuff :whistle: But yea, it depends on the occupants and how it's cared for. Can't say much for KIA, loooong ago I got into a Sorento, or something like that (the 4x4) that was basically new, and OMW the plastics was crap.

You are correct - I think it was the Golf 4 or 5 and Jetta and Polo at the same time, where all of the switches lose their black plastic covering and turn white - I would freak if that happened to my car.

My diesel gives me an ave of 7.2l/100km. Best i have had was about 6.2km/100 on a trip from cape town to durban, and worst was maybe 8.0/100 when my wife used it for the school runs etc for a while when i was away

I average 11l/100km....
 
I doubt you'll get anywhere with them... They will probably tell you they sent photos to Kia in Korea and that they rejected the claim. Happened twice when I had my Hyundai.

I have a 2.4L AWD auto that gives exactly the same, so I would say slightly heavy indeed.
 
My wife has a 2L Sportage and swears by it.

We did some fuel comparisons last week and was surprised to find my 3.2L A6 was more economical (when not flooring it around town). 8.2L/100km and around 9 for wifey.

My friends Peugeot 207 has has all the black "paint" come off the switches on the radio and hazzard-light button revealing the white plastic underneath.

Admittedly, I do not drive like a pussy foot ;)

But FYI, there was a class action lawsuit by the Yanks that the publicised petrol consumption of KIA vehicles was miserably misleading when compared to real world figures. KIA reached an agreement and have a reimbursement program for the US customers ...

Those faults should be covered under the 5-year warranty? If you get objections, drop a mail to Kia SA and wait for an irate phone call from the dealership about how you "misunderstood" them. At least the light covers will be replaced :D
