What an idiot!!! Late nomination for SA's 2011 Darwin Award ...

Port Elizabeth - A Port Elizabeth man who claimed to have been kidnapped for a R5m ransom was arrested after being found at a braai with friends on Christmas Day, Beeld reported on Thursday.

He was expected to appear in court on Thursday on charges of obstruction of justice and fraud.

Police spokesperson Captain Stanley Jarvis was quoted as saying they suspected he wanted to use the money to get himself out of financial difficulties.

The man travelled to Johannesburg on business when, according to his wife, he disappeared between December 12 and 13.

On December 16 she went to the police and reported him missing. She said she had received a phone call from "kidnappers" demanding R5m ransom.

An organised crime unit went to work and looked at his cellphone statements to see who he had been in contact with.

Police also contacted his Facebook friends, and eventually got an address near Hartebeespoort dam, in the North West.

"On Christmas day local investigators went to the address and found him next to the braai with his friends," Jarvis told Beeld.

Some associate of him phoned me last week in connection with his kidnapping, and I knew it was just anther scam. I ignored it... Didn't expect to hear from it again.

Bwahaha, serves him right tbh.

We never was close, and he's been in all sorts of dubious business for ages.

Again: lolz, i guess its time to phone mom and tell her he resurfaced :-P

I was thinking the same thing, did he think this through? Unless he was trying to get all his family and friends to chip in..

I'm not sure either... I guess its got to be his wife, as she is doing fairly good for herself business wise. Her family is also well off afaik. They also tried me (imo by the insistant tone of his associate), but I wouln't fall for it, and I don't have 5mil lying around.

He's been "skelm" most of his life, hence my refusal to get sucked into his apparent scam. I prefer to not get involved. He made his bed, now its time to sleep in it.
