Keep in mind actually measuring AC power consumption is not completely trivial.
It is the reason the Kill-A-Watt is so popular in the US, it is super accurate.
They use what is called a true RMS meter. Low quality meters (which isn't determined by price), basically use a very simple average voltage measurement and multiple the amps to give you the amount of power used.
The Kill-A-Watt samples the incoming power a bunch of times for every cycle. Every time it samples it measures the current also. The difference in accuracy can be quite large.
