Kill Flash: Facebook

Let me put question this way:

Adobe Flash is used professionally for animation (not adverts, not particular movie, not business related, artistic purpose).

Now for question. Any of you know how to integrate multiple flash clips into HTML5 (interactive "choose your own adventure" movie) with basic RPG elements without learning heavy coding (person does not have time/skill/brainwiring to do advanced programming)?

Answer: None.

If you can't use HTML5 and JavaScript then you're not a professional though.

And you can develop HTML5 apps with limited programming knowledge. Just get something like Clickteam Fusion 2.5 and use the HTML exporter.

What a dumbass response.

To say if someone not being able to develop in Java or html5 is not professional is the dumbass response. Flash developers are considered professional

/inb4 they should learn other languages

/inb4 we start hearing about all the security flaws on html5 when the hackers start concentrating on it

Flash is the king of security vulnerabilities, so whatever issues HTML has won't be as bad.

If someone is nothing more than a Flash developer then they're a one trick pony and only have themself to blame if their profession becomes obsolete. Any decent web/multimedia developer should be in touch with what's happening in their respective fields.

The reality is that the term 'professional' is thrown around too loosely these days. HTML5 and JavaScript is the core of modern web development - you ain't a pro if they're above your level.

I was not talking about developers, I was talking about artists (specifically animators).

My point was about Flash-exclusive feature like combination of simple code and professional animation.

There will always be WYSIWYG programs out there for basically everything, and I'm sure people who can't program will find something that works for them.

That said, I wouldn't pay a website animator a nickel if they couldn't provide the finished product in HTML5 & CSS3 or GIF. No modern website has an excuse to use Flash. It's outdated technology. It may be inconvenient for some people, but everyone needs to move with the times.

Flash on Linux is being discontinued (I know, a very small amount of PC's are affected)
Flash doesn't run on the two largest OS's running smartphones and tablets

So Flash support will be limited to Windows and Mac PC's and laptops. Now, if two of the largest browsers (by market share) are making it harder to access Flash content, and drawing users' attention to the insecurity, it will start to reflect on websites that still require it.

I for one will not miss it. If you cannot update your website, then I may have no reason to visit. And if I absolutely have to, I will set up a VM to access your site with, and get it over with as quickly as possible. On the bright side, removing Flash from my PC got rid of most of the autoplay videos and some ads. Bonus.

The sooner the NPAPI framework is killed off, the better.
