So i purchased the Kindle 3G Wifi on Monday brand new from BidorBuy and got delivery yesterday.

My question is when i switched it on it loaded up fine but when i am on the main screen and i go to a "link" like settings the colours on the Kindle sort of invert, the background goes black and the text goes white but only for like a split second. Is this normal? Should i be worried and will i be able to return the device if i bought it from BidorBuy?

Also how do i register for the free 3G? By just creating an amazon account?

Thanks

Yours does the same as mine, and as far as I can find out it is normal. Create the account and you get free internet access via Whispernet, which seems to be the name for the Amazon net.

Thanks! you have put my mind at ease a little.

Ill create an account for the internet, i actually bought it for as a christmas present for my mom so ill only be able to actually do that once she has opened it otherwise i might give the suprise away.

Thanks for the response

It's due to the e-ink. A kindle does not have a refresh rate like a normal screen where it constantly refreshes multiple times a second. Instead it "draws" a page which is then permanently imprinted until a new page is requested which it then does a "wipe" and re-imprints the new page.

This is why it is so much more comfortable to read on and the battery lasts so long if 3G or wifi is not activated ( mine can go for a month plus ).
