Any one have any ideas for a kitchen PC, software wise?

I've installed the PC, it has a touch screen - now I'm trying to think of decent software, it has XBMC - so can stream all the video and audio from the network.

Now I need things like decent conversion calculator, recipe programs, etc. Any suggestions?

(Windows 7 platform)

Man! You've just given me a brilliant idea. This should keep my wife in the kitchen all day long and I can have the TV to myself on saturdays :D

/Bookmarks thread!

LOL - Picked up a cheapie MSI All-In-One in the classifieds, fits the purpose perfectly.

(and thats exactly what I told my SO, its so she doesn't have to leave the kitchen)

The idea that I've been playing with since I saw your thread was to have something which one would be able to do following on (over wifi connected to the router in the study):
  • Check Facebook updates
  • Check email
  • Listen to music
  • Watch series
  • View recipes
  • Convert between ounces, grams, litres etc (since she always asks me to do this)
I'll add some more as I think of it
Oh and most importantly it would need to be touchscreen and waterproof.

Just some ideas :)

Have these covered:
[*]Check Facebook updates
[*]Check email
[*]Listen to music
[*]Watch series

Looking for a nice conversion app, and a decent timer/countdown app - currently using a Chrome plugin.

That would work nicely, but prefer something with buttons to push, it'll be easier than typing on the onscreen keyboard - although I might end up writing a little app to do this.

Thought about putting in a kitchen PC but our tablets made the idea of having one seem redundant.

How about a shopping list app that syncs with your smart phone. I know you get apps for smart phones that sync between various devices. Not sure if there is a Windows version of any of them though. It would be very useful to fill in your grocery list as you run out of stuff in the kitchen, then just check off your stuff using your phone while you shop.

I was using "Our Groceries" for Android to sync shopping lists between gf's and my phones.

I came accross a paid for recipe management app that had similiar shopping list apps for various mobiles... must look for it

You forgot the "Egg timer" with sound.
I always forget stuff in the oven
