Hi all

I'm looking at remodeling my kitchen. Ripping out all cupboards, counters etc. Kitchen isn't big, 6m2. Looking at rearranging where the fridge is located but this won't require any structural work. Other than that sink, oven and washing machine will remain as is. Would also like to get a built in oven with gas hob.

Any recommendations for places in Cape Town? Done a quick Google search and found these places based on reviews

I'm not a Constantia mom so not looking at granite counter tops, Smeg appliances etc. but still decent workmanship but without breaking the bank.

You need to have a budget set to start with.

You could also look to use flat pack units rather than a custom kitchen setup.

Why would you not put in granite tops? They not that much more expensive(especially for such small kitchen) and will last forever.
The normal black Rustenburg granite is the cheapest and works with most colours kitchen.

I have seen this so many times. People spending thousands to redo their kitchen only to have to replace counter tops again after a few years because they put those wooden Postform tops in and then someone put something hot on them or they swell up from moisture.

That's why I started this thread I was always under the impression granite tops are much more expensive than the other options.

Well they are a bit more expensive. But if you look at it overall. Say you spend 50k on your kitchen and the granite tops cost 5/6k more than the wood Postform tops. Then that's small change for no worries about moisture, no worries about heat or cutting it with a knife.
Even if they cost 10k more, once you have to replace your wood tops in less than 10 years again, it would have been cheaper to just go with granite from the start.

I have not done this in more than 10 years, so I may be out with my prices. But last time I did this it was something like R600 per meter for Postform tops, installed and 1-1.2k per meter for the normal Rustenburg granite.

You just have to let your budget dictate what materials you use, 50-60k will not afford you to do much with the countertops.

You can speak to whoever you get to do the kitchen to quote you on both laminate/melamine and granite or quartz so you can see the cost difference.

That's the plan but the question is who do I speak to lol.

I think I'll give https://ccmi.co.za/ a call this week. They're just down the road from me.

Places like diycupboards.

Everything is standard sizes and all that, I'm sure you can choose finishes because the version of them in Durban let's you choose the finish type and all that.

Redid my 3x3 kitchen last year(JHB). "On the cheap" still cost me R100k which includes a Siemens Hob and built-in oven.

Kept the carcasses but replaced the doors with melamine, Postform tops because I've had granite in the past and after 5 years I'm sick of it and want a change anyway.

Would definitely do granite if there were kids around (or maybe guys under 35 😁 ).

I would give you the details for the guys that did mine but they're a small crew and they're absolutely swamped with work and you will end up waiting long. I was lucky to be the first job of the year just as things started up but now I'm struggling to get them to come back and address a small issue.

Kitchens are kak expensive, finished mine earlier this year for around R160k without any appliances. It does have custom oak veneer fronts and quartz countertops so mainly my fault it was expensive 😅

With that budget you are probably going to be limited to incremental retrofit, not a complete remodel.

Can't you keep the carcasses and change the doors as @maumau did?

Details like doors and handles and paint make a big difference.

So does a decent oven and stove, no need for them to be built in.
