Yes, still got it, and still enjoying it. Just short of 40 000km on the clock now.

It's a good car, I've had no problems with it, the motor is good, and I enjoy driving it. The steering is a bit sensitive, and with a bit of torque steer and some ruts in the road, it can be a bit twitchy when you're overtaking hard.

I might be running out of space soon though, now that I've got a second Great Dane...
 
Some VW dealers in Gauteng are doing as much as R35k off new Polos.

Jokes aside, Kugas are worth looking at now, a friend of mine picked up a 1.5 Trend with 20k Km on the clock for R270k, insurance values the car at R340k retail currently.
 
Two years ago I bought a 2010 Kia Cerato 2L for R120k. It has all the features I need (but Bluetooth would've been nice). 8 airbags, leather seats, cruise control, big boot and enough power to tow a trailer easily. I think it was a good deal.

Good deals on new cars today would definitely include the Xuv500 as mentioned. If you want a double cab, the GWM Steed seems like the best budget option, or the entry level Ranger.
If you want a small SUV the diesel Duster is great (and if you look second hand, even more so)

Cars have got extremely expensive in the last 24 months, and the trend seems to be continuing. In 2015 they blamed the rand, but major dealers had 3-4 price increases in 2016 and the rand was sort of flat. Guess the best budget sedans are the ones Uber Drivers use... The ones I've been in and I like (in this order);

Toyota Corolla (5/5)
Toyota Corolla Quest (4/5)
Kia Rio Sedan(4/5)
Hyundai Accent(3.5/5)
Polo Sedan (3.5/5)

The ones that I've been in and wondered what the hell is in this seat is the Geely Emrgand. I see it referenced here, wouldn't recommend it. Seat was uncomfy, car had rattles and the driver said he hasn't done 20k kms on the car yet. Only been in them twice and the seat was uncomfortable in the second one I was in too... comparing seat to the cars listed above.

Big fan of this car, love the look... Glad to hear good things, mazda really struggling in ZA, it would good to see them bounce back!
 
I'd add the Honda BRV - 7 seater, decent specs and price.
Also depends what you mean by bargain - can a car that costs 700k be a bargain when it's competitors are 1 million? Then I'd add the Kia Sedona.

Beyond that, the Chinese brands.

At R238900, the BRV is indeed a bargain, are all BRVs 7 Seaters?

Yup.
Look it's not fancy, no infotainment screen and all that. But has what you need and for a family with 2 kids a 7 seater makes a lot of sense (to me at least).

Agree 100%, there is nothing wrong with the car, that's all I need.

Ah OK, had no idea how many airbags it's got. I still reckon it's a good bargain buy.

Ford also have really decent discounts that make their cars comparatively cheaper to competitors - not what I'd call bargains but pretty good.

I was actually looking at the Ford 1.0l ecosport.

This might actually be better. A much bigger car for under R250k

Made for the Indian Market from what I know and built on the same platform as the Brio (so not great), just be aware of that fact when looking at the car.

The Ford Ecosport is NOT bigger than the BRV.

I also consider the BRV a very good buy, but the lack of curtain air bags at the rear is strange

Correct. While the BR-V goes up against CX3/Captur/Coffee/EcoSport etc it is actually bigger than all of them.
 
I am bad at negotiating. I wouldn't know how to ask for a discount.

Can somebody start a thread on car negotiations.

Does and don'ts

When is the correct time, maybe at the end of month when people need to meet targets.

Are the likes of Peugeot more than willing to give you a discount on a vehicle. It beats closing down shop.

I think you misread the post, he actually means the BRV is a much bigger car. The Ecosport is not bigger nor is it under R250k.

Easiest thing to do is just to another dealership looking at a similar class car at a similar price. Then when Dealer A tells you car A is going for price X at interest rate Y, you can tell them dealer B is offering car B for price rate Z and interest rate W.

Having options always makes things better. Places the power on your side, not there's.
