Know any new car bargains?

Easiest thing to do is just to another dealership looking at a similar class car at a similar price. Then when Dealer A tells you car A is going for price X at interest rate Y, you can tell them dealer B is offering car B for price rate Z and interest rate W.

Having options always makes things better. Places the power on your side, not there's.

Damn straight. Some more advice:

Don't be emotional. It's just a car. If you become attached to a car you see on the floor, or the idea of walking out with a car, you're f--ked before you even walk in.

Never pay retail for a new car. All car prices are up for negotiation.

Cars cost a lot of money, and are a ****ty investment. Don't piss your hard-earned cash away, especially on something that will likely devalue by 40% in 2 years (if it's a new car).

Walk into the dealership knowing exactly what car/model you want and having done your research on pricing (look it up on Autotrader, Gumtree etc.). Have a figure in mind that you'd be happy to pay for said car.

As for how to ask for a discount, try "What's the best possible price you can give me on the vehicle?"

Whatever figure they give you, there's nothing wrong with responding that unfortunately said figure is still more than you are able to pay for it. Everyone has a budget.

At any point during the process, feel free to walk away. In fact, I strongly urge you to walk out. It's probably the most powerful thing you can do during a negotiation and demonstrates that you, the customer, holds the power. If they're not willing to budge on pricing, just say "That's more than I was hoping to pay. You've got my details. If you change your mind or can come down on the price, call me." I did something similar fairly recently when purchasing a car, and was chased out of the dealership front door offering a better deal, and further received a call 30 minutes later from the dealership offering me an additional R5k off the vehicle.

Also, no matter how long you might spend chatting to a salesman, or however nice they might be, don't let that prevent you from further shopping around for the best possible deal. If guy #1 offers you the car for X, go and ask guy #2 if he can better X.

Best time I've found is to buy at the end of December the closer to month end the better.

This of course because the model year will be rolling over and they'll have to discount it when that happens as it will be "older" in the eyes of many buyers.

Generally I find you won't win much on trying to get the actual price reduced but you can win by getting extras added for "free" or pushing up the trade-in value as this doesn't affect the sales person's bottom line.

As with any deal don't look desperate and be fully committed to walking away if it doesn't suit you. You'll be amazed what happens if you actually say "no thanks".

However check your expectations and don't be unrealistic. You can't expect discounts on a sought after car that was just released for instance. Or a massive discount in general just because you feel like it.

If the car in question is an easy seller for them why would they make their own lives harder to accommodate you?

Looking at a Polo TSI. Retail with extras and after the promotional discount is 240K. This is before all dealship fees of about 8k.

I am hoping to get the dealership fees waived at least
