A police officer in KwaMashu, KwaZulu-Natal, has been arrested for allegedly raping one of his daughters and sexually assaulting another, a provincial official said on Wednesday.
The officer handed himself over to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate on Tuesday, said social development spokeswoman Ncumiza Fandesi.
"The girls, aged 16 and 15, reported the matter at the weekend... and were promptly removed to a place of safety... Their nine-year-old sister, who had not been violated, was also removed," Fandesi said.
The eldest daughter claimed her father began raping her last year. The 15-year-old alleged she had been sexually assaulted since March.
All three of the girls lived with the warrant officer. Their mothers were being tracked down.
MEC Weziwe Thusi said she was disappointed at such reports and hoped justice would prevail.
"We hope that the courts will ensure that this man never sees the light of day except through his prison cell," Thusi said.
The officer was expected to bring a formal bail application in the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court on October 23.
