Knowing how things often go in SA where local communities get involved in major works projects and often disrupt and delay things, this is not exactly a comforting statement.

Ayy, Eskom has blown a turbine and steam generator or two in recent years. If I recall on one occasion, the staff responsible were suspended for not following procedure.

I just don't like the idea of working in these local ''workforces'' on such sensitive projects because there is a history of it being problematic. If they're skilled, great, but the fact the article stressed ''issues'' indicates that there was something not up to scratch. Hopefully it wasn't a skills issue.

Given the French attitude to the English language, probably they spoke French and the locals replied in Afrikaans for the first few months.

It might be the manpower/logistic issue each person can probably only do 30-60minute work a day or less. Due to radiation exposure. So what they thought would take x amount of hours with x amount of skilled labour projected by the likes of an OEM like Framatome/Areva was perhaps inaccurate. Now they in the thick of things, the OEM’s own resources are based elsewhere and would probably take time to pitch. Thats my guess.
 
The steam generator replacement on unit one was scheduled to be finished in early June, but unanticipated logistical obstacles along with issues integrating a local workforce the cANCer muppets slowed the timeline, Keith Featherstone, Eskom’s chief nuclear officer, said Thursday in an online briefing.

Imagine them replying in Afrikaans with a French accent would confuse the hell out of them even more.
 
This was Oberholzers portfolio which he neglected and upped and left

Oh? I thought that portfolio started when he went on contract after he retired. So 2 months? Wasn’t it the head of nuclear that resigned in charge of that?

The COO's portfolio is all technical operations within Eskom, when he retired he was tasked with overseeing just the Koeberg project. That's why the new Chief of Generation is now the one who is tasked with the Koeberg project, since he is the one assuming the role of that was held by the COO.

Yes they do break it down from the COO into various management structures but there is nothing wrong about saying it was his portfolio. Of course that does not mean he is the one who messed up but he was the ultimate accounting authority.
