Koeberg Unit 1 return delayed to November

South Africa’s Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd. expects to finish maintenance on the first of two units at its 1,940-megawatt Koeberg nuclear plant in November after delays doubled the time it’s taking to complete the work.

The steam generator replacement on unit one was scheduled to be finished in early June, but unanticipated logistical obstacles along with issues integrating a local workforce slowed the timeline, Keith Featherstone, Eskom’s chief nuclear officer, said Thursday in an online briefing.

Yeah I know, just blows my mind that we'd risk having unskilled people working on a project that has this potential impact on the country as well as such high risk scenarios if it possibly goes wrong just for the sake of BEE

We should be done by end 2023, in time for mid 2024 winter, and even though waiting to end 2024 is safer, we do foresee winter 2025 having LS due to the units being offline.

According to the article, work on Unit 1 will be complete by Nov 2023 before work on Unit 2 begins. Looking at how Unit 1 overran its planned timeline, we can assume Unit 2 will also overshoot its scheduled timeline.

Coal and nuclear is different, the employees working at Koeberg by large are hardworking and competent from what I can gauge. The EAF speaks for itself.
