Looks fake to me. Honestly those attackers spend way too much time standing still for my liking.

Edit. The demo looks fake, the martial art seems cool.

I can vouch for Krav Maga :) It really works.

My sensei taught the all round basics of defence/survival, using ju-jitsu, Krav Maga and Arnis de Mano. He learnt it from the israeli army AFAIK.
I think Krav Maga is far from a martial 'art', it is more of an advanced military tool on how to bring anyone down to the ground.

Long story short, if you are keen on learning self defence, I would say Krav Maga is the way to go!

Authentic krav maga is pretty good, but i dont like the approach it takes...
(it seems very aggressive...)
the gun work also seemed very ambitious to me, knife work was average, h-h was pretty good.

I had a choice of doing this or systema, went to each of the classes...chose systema...
no regrets so far

It is very aggressive and it is dirty.
You are taught to win at any cost.
I have learned to find parts of the body and basically "rip" them off.

Yeah, to be honest, i dont like form based or uber aggressive martial arts. I think its just a preference thing, I didnt go to many KM classes, so its hard to judge on it, but a few guys who are in classes with me have some decent experience in it...they definintely say its a worthwhile self defense system...

Way too much brute force required - requires you to be stronger than your attacker a lot of the time. I don't see much point, but then again I like my traditional chinese kung fu and a bit of BJJ thrown in.

BJJ is useful, Kung fu needs years and years before it becomes effective...Kfu is also a lifestyle martial art, which is cool if thats what you are looking for, but not everyone is..
as for brute force, KM does require some force in certain aspects...but it does steal bits from other arts like aikido, and as such, has a fair amount of technique as well

Krav Maga looks ugly but it works! Like above posters said it's not really a Martial Art it's more a way of survival!

I also hate demo's where one guy moves so much faster than the other...
both should be moving the same speed, fast or slow...i loathe it even more when they have a guy who does a strike/attack, then stands still after that whilst the other dude is getting his rage on...

I know a bit since the training i go to incorporates a fair whack of aikido principles in it...
what u wanna know?

Had this kid the other day talking to me about Aikido. He's about 16 years old. Wanted me to do certain things and he threw me around like a cloth doll :D I found it pretty amazing. And it completely slipped my mind till I saw this thread :o

Yeah, the idea of aikido is pretty cool, and it works exceptionally well under certain circumstances..
but i bet the kid kind of dictated the scenario's...if you attacked him in a different way, they struggle a bit, or try jostle for a position they are comfortable with.....
Its my problem with these "form" type based martial arts...although, aikido does have some very good physics ideas, its still based, and practiced under scenarios..

Thats just what i find, and i could be wrong, i am far from an expert...
One of the biggest obstacles in self defense is getting used to the idea you can get hit without dying, and getting used to being hit...if you lose that fear, you are much more likely to thump the other guy
