...and I've just read on SanParks' forum that the Blyde River Dam is starting to crack. Folks in the Lowveld are in for a rough night.

The dam's apparently holding up for now. Sensationalism FTL!

Nope no tree babies, that was a cyclone over moz and the edges caught SA. Unless we have a cyclone it will not get as bad. The Letaba river were 3 Km wide at some places back in 2000.

The weather said it is going to start clearing tomorow. The big thing is now that the blyde will need to open Sluices. The parks said they are in contact with them and will monitor the situation. But they recon the worst is over for now.

News said lots more heavy rain expected tonight and things gonna get worse :confused:

Seasonal heavy rains? It is their rain season, they had a very wet season last year as well. So dams are full. I hope they do not stuff up as they did with the orange river last year.

Yes this is floods, and it is devastating. But it will not be on the scale of 2000.

  1. The unenforceable PROPOSED law? Yeah, it's SOPA for the Weather Bureau.
  2. Rain in Skukuza is rather irrelevant; not really in the catchment area of the rivers that are flooding, is it?

There is a cyclone on it's way. And moz had a tropical depresion earlier this week. The rain this week ( in hoedspruit )was not part of it but cyclone funso is on its way. Currently is no direct threat to SA. There seems to be a weather System developing on the back of funso. And is being monitored.
