La Lucia Congestion

How very near is near? Because we (those of us affected) have been complaining for over 6 months. When dealing with telkom near could mean never. :( If i got paid for the amount of times somebody said near future over the last 6 months i'd be rich.

Just and FYI for those in La Lucia - was driving to a restaurant and happened to see Telkom technicians working on an MSAN cabinet on Delaware Avenue, Durban North - very close to La Lucia. Approximately 5 Delaware Avenue would be the address if you look it up on google maps. Its on the turning circle in front of a house. In google maps it shows an old blue exchange box, but i see theyve now installed an MSAN cabinet there (white cabinet with 3 doors branded with telkom).

This is probably an indication that VDSL will be out in the area soon. According to google maps this is about 4.9km from my estate. Not sure if there are any others in the area other than this cabinet.

Thanks for that info, could it explain why this weekend was the worst ever? Pings were stuffed from like 10am alllllll the way to 1am the next day.

It's still stuffed mate, gaming impossible.
Hehe.. We are Typical South Africans, we see the slight glimmer of a positive outcome in our misery and trudge on with a hope in our hearts for a better tomorrow...
Meanwhile we are stuck in a wedge of plausible deniability by our telco and service providers that can't or won't give us factual answers, but cloak their responses by vague insinuations to possible causes.

I'm asking myself though, with all the advanced network monitoring tools and suites available how come the service providers can't give us definitive answers and provide proof to Telkom that the problem is indeed their infrastructure.

We have become classes of consumers that are managed in ratios and percentages and not attended to individually. Acceptable losses and deviations.

Lol true, and i keep falling for it. I'm sure they know it's bad, i mean look at hellopeter, and i'm sure many others have also phoned to complain. Yet they say it's normal, or nothing is wrong.

OK so a bit of sad news. I took a drive through somerset road today in la lucia to see whats happening with the dslam there. Its about 650m meters from my house so im assuming everyone around somerset park area is connected to this dslam. Anyway, on google maps which is about 1.5 years old there is a picture of the dslam (pic1 in attachment). In pic2 is what i saw today. So what theyve done is just added another extension to the dslam im assuming to add more ports. Im assuming this means no MSAN in the near future here if theyve just added this extra cabinet on top.

I wonder what goes through the persons head that is responsible for the ADSL network in our area.
Exchanges congested and over loaded? Lets add more clients!

If it was any other competent company they would have been fired.

First post on forums here ever. I LIVE IN MARION TOO.

Just left telkom direct in umhlanga- the sales lady got bitchy with me reckons "this is the first she's ever heard of a problem in your area". I promptly pulled out my ipad and shoved it up her arrogant nostrils with the hellopeter complaints all open.

Telkom maintains there is are issues whatsoever and a port reset will solve issues. I'm scared to ask: how many of you have heard this?

6 months in of fault logging and no joy. I get up to 1700ms ping on a 1 meg line after about 5pm and over entire weekends.

This all coincides with upgrades done in September.

P.s Vdsl is available in our area. At this rate if we buy the 40meg package you might fit in a game of dota after hours if you're lucky and end up with the 1 meg speed you were originally promised. **** telkom!

Yea they are beyond useless, who said vdsl is available, telkoms speedchecker says 10mbit is max?

Telkom: is your line working?
Me: yes
Telkom: well then there's nothing wrong.
Me: but latency is terrible at night and weekends and speeds are shocking.
Telkom: thats because lots of people are using the internet at night.
Me: well that's not what im paying for.
Telkom: it's normal there's nothing we can do.
Me: facepalms and puts phone down.

So I logged a fault AGAIN after doing a port reset had no tangible improvement whatsoever.

They took a day and then just signed it off without even contacting me for fault clarification.
I re-opened it, and now I wait again...
**** their incompetence...

I saw some technicians at a box thingy, maybe a dslam down the road i was hoping to get home and see some improvements, fat chance pings are about 400 - 800ms.

Dam! How did I miss this thread lol. Been on mweb adsl discussion to try and see if it's mweb's problem, I'm also having this super slow internet after 5pm and weekend. Telkom came to look at our line and said there's nothing wrong with it, and that it must be mweb, Mweb said it's telkom... Now after seeing this thread, I believe it is telkom. Sigh, Any idea how to solve this issue? Do we just sit and wait or... complaining to telkom doesn't seem to work these days..

How long have u been having issues? Are u on 031562 or 031572??

Hey. I have had this problem for six months. It just gets worse and worse everyday. I get better latency and download/upload speeds using HSDPA+ with my cellphone.

Log a fault here: https://secureapp.telkom.co.za/assurance/public/logafault
Then speak to @TelkomZA on twitter (or Facebook) and let them know about your congested exchange using your phone number, and send them tracerts to saix.net and speed tests using http://durban.spdtst.saix.net/ (Select Durban).

If they just close your fault report without fixing anything, which they will do.
Log a complaint on Hellopeter: http://hellopeter.com/write-report
Escalate the fault here http://residential.telkom.co.za/emailcontact-residential/escalationform.htm Using the reference number you got when you logged your fault at https://secureapp.telkom.co.za/assurance/public/logafault

If you still don't get anywhere you can send a complaint to ICASA at https://www.icasa.org.za/OnlineSystems/ConsumerComplaintsForm/tabid/71/Default.aspx
Tell them that Telkom doesn't provide the service that we pay for and that we have no other option but to pay for an unreliable, slow and crippled internet connection. While Telkom says that there is no problem, which clearly is a lie as you can see from the countless complaints here and at http://hellopeter.com/search-report...=all&datefrom=&dateto=&user=&advsearch=Submit

It looks like the La Lucia area is set to get VDSL in the future.
Register here for 40mbs to show your interest. http://www.telkom.co.za/wholesale-web/products-and-services/interest-register.jsp

If you know of someone that has the same problem in and near the La Lucia area get them to do the same thing here. Send them this address http://tinyurl.com/slowadsl

Hopefully one day we will be able to have a decent internet connection again in the future.
