Also having the same problem with high latency in the evenings. I live in the Glen Ashely Heights in Durban North and have been dealing with this problem since November 2012 (when Telkom did the ADSL upgrades)
For all the faults I have placed with MWEB, still nothing has happened and Telkom keeps telling me its my Pc or my line that is the problem.
I have had a Telkom TECH come into my home and used his own laptop in my phone line and got the same issue of +900ms and could not give me an answer. After that he just closed to fault and said it was fixed...... Had to log another fault!
Thursday (14.03.13) I got a call from Telkom saying that they found a problem in the Exchange and replaced to DSLAM board and the problem has been fixed, well nothing has changed and still **** latency!
Now I have phoned MWEB again this morning (18.03.13) and they are requesting that again I log into Telkom guest account and take screen shots of the display, but the ping is so bad that I'm unable to load the
www.saix.net home page.
But what bugs me the most is that this isn't the first time I'm doing this, just keeps going in circles and nothing is getting done!
I spoke to a Telkom tech and asked him about the new exchange that has been installed on Delawre Rd (big new white box next to the old exchange) and he told me that its only for the 20mb/40mb lines as the old exchange can't handle those speeds and traffic.
So at the end of the day Telkom has done nothing with the upgrades to the exchanges like they said on there web site in the selected area's and only plan on taking care of high end payers(businesses) for the 40mb speeds and I don't think they are worried about this problem of latency as its only a hand full of people that are having this problem (online gamers)
Best we sit tight because this is going to be long wait for Telkom to decide to fix this issue as they are more willing to spend R1 million on the PSL than fix the problems us paying customers are having!
