A row has erupted after a Labour Party candidate called the Queen a "parasite" and likened her to "vermin".


Not amused: Peter White's comments have been slated by the Tories
Peter White used the Facebook networking site to express his feelings about the monarch to Tory MP Andrew Rosindell.
Mr White is contesting the South Hornchurch council ward in Havering next year.
The former election agent in Romford made his comments as he condemned plans to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
Mr Rosindell last week presented a bill calling for a national holiday to coincide with the anniversary.
Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with a public holiday but lets [sic] have one that means something, rather than celebrating vermin.

Mr White wrote: "What is the point of celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of someone who is born into a position of privilege, she is a parasite and milks this country for everything she can.

Nice one Labour ! The good news is that you are going to be annihilated at the next election and way overdue it will be.

A labour politician calling someone else a parasite and vermin - talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
 
I tend to agree with him. This concept of "royalty" is nonsense. The French & Russians got rid of theirs ;)
 
Looks like they're heading for defeat in the next general election. About time too :o

Killing off those royal families put those countries back decades IRO economic growth. Royalty represents stability. Kill off the royals you kill stability.
 
Royalty is a load of crap these days. Just parasites.
But that comment will damage his career as many people don't like their beloved useless queen being insulted.

Why is this news of any interest to South Africans though?

Nonsense. France is much better off today, things don't change overnight. Russias problem and decline was communism. In both these countries poverty was the order of the day for the masses under the elite. Russia is the richest country in the world resource wise, they will eventually get there.
 
France, post revolution entered a period of economic decline halted by Napolean. He set in place a succession plan (ironically a royal family). During that period of decline Frances middle class either legged it to the UK (the Brunel family is one example) and the US or lost their heads. Quite literally.

At the time of the Russian revolution Russias growth rate was such that would have eclipsed the US as the world economic powerhouse within 30 years. It is still attempting to get back to the same point.

Before making declarations such as "Nonsense", read your history.

Who cares about a couple of hundred of years ago, talking about the here & now.

The UK monarchy is more symbolic than anything else, losing it would be no loss to the UK except for a few touristy things. The monarchies of old held absolute power, different scenarios from todays 'western' monarchies.

*sigh*, the UK civil service has a nearly unbroken record of 1000 years of dedication to the queen and state (note that these are, within the UK, inextricably intwined). Removal of the queen as head of state would result in a loss of confidence in the civil service and there would be a power vaccuum for an indeterminate period. The results would be significant.

Ponder (sorry couldn't resist) this: the beaurocrats are responsible to the queen NOT the ruling party. Removal of her as an independent and politically unaligned arbitrator in matters of state would leave the civil service turning to whom for direction? The ruling political party? The president? In otherwords: yes. She or what she represents is the glue that holds the UK together.

Your grasp of history and the consequences of interfering in a long established system rivals that of the ANC.
 
Bollocks. The days of queen and country are long gone. They go to work for a salary to survive. The queens demise will have very little impact on the UK I'm sorry to say, business will carry on as usual.

Public funding for Queen Elizabeth II and the royal family cost British taxpayers the equivalent of $1.14 each last year.

Hardly a drain on the economy is it.
