Need to get something really awesome for a special lady. So far Gucci Rush and Knowing tops my list.

These are powerful and aggressive perfumes as opposed to the flower scented fragrances.

Anything else?

Perfumes are so personal. Can you not ask one of her friends if she has a favourite?

My perennial favourites are Givenchy's Amarige and Organza and CK's Euphoria.

A high end perfume costs R1000 i.e http://www.takealot.com/all/?qsearch=212+vip&_sb=1&_dt=all&_r=1

Why dont you buy her a guess bag or take her away for a weekend.

Edit : figure out your budget, maybe you can do a bag/perfume and a couples massage at a spa.

I prefer sweet, fruity smells. Not many people I know do.

I agree with arr0w though :p

Unless you know her favourite , I'd steer clear of getting her perfume. Some perfumes can actually bring on a headache or make you nauseous even though the fragrance is beautiful. My favorite fragrance is Estee Lauder's Beautiful btw :p

^^ This ^^

I LOVE the smell of one of the Jean Paul Gaultier perfumes, but it gave me a headache every time I tried a tester.

If you want her to try an aggressive perfume, try Black XS by Poco Rabane

Ask on the basenotes fragrance forum, those guys know fragrance

Finally fougnd a solution. China Mall between A and B Block. Turkish dude selling generic versions of the real thing at R20 a bottle. Smells like the real deal and doesn't fade so I bought a ton of different varieties for her and myself as well.

Lady is chuffed. Can't understand why the big brands are so expensive.

Gucci Rush and Knowing also available.

Long as she's happy that's a big win :p:)

Those typically smell very similar when you first spray them, nice smelling , its the dry down an hr or 2 later when they lose their charm?

Be careful as well of what they use in them, its going on your skin, a membrane that will suck in any dodgy chemicals. I don't even trust the real thing to be completely harmless in that respect.

So a fantastic lady, you want to buy something special for and this in your mind equals cheap knock off perfume that will smell like cat piss in a bottle after an hour...

Fantastic.

It's pretty challenging buying perfume for a lady. I've only done it a couple of times, once on receiving a hint, and once having paid attention when she was talking about a friend's perfume.

In both cases I was successful but I bought the real product (as overpriced as they are)

If you buy the cheap fake one, you are essentially demeaning the lady in question, in effect you are saying: 'you are not worth the expense'. That's a tricky road to go down.

If I was you I would avoid the perfume entirely. It's a really hard gift to get right. You do not want to make an expensive mistake (or a cheap mistake).

There are other options which are romantic and less hard to **** up. Once you know her a little better you can buy her the perfume you know she likes.

I cheat because it's hard :erm:

I make note of the stuff she likes wearing...then head off to fragrantica and check what the base notes are. Make a list of things that are similar and distributed locally...then head off to the mall with her sister to find something expensive enough that the SO wouldn't buy on her own.

still a gamble but at least the odds are in my favour. It's hard to find gifts that are personal enough to show effort.

Glad you're happy but I think you're deceiving yourself a bit here.

Right now I'm in love with Roberto Cavalli, perfect for winter.

The knock off fragrances don't smell exactly the same as the original, nor do they last as long, but maybe you can use them to figure out what to get her for a special occasion.
